Shane Van Boening's Break in Super Slow Motion

Actually, with any fast-speed shot (especially the break shot), the CB is airborne over much of the distance to the OB. The reason for this is the cue is not level on most shots, because it needs to clear over the rails. A small amount of speed is lost on the first jump right off the tip and every time the CB lands before hopping into the air again.

Flying the CB doesn't really give you more speed (because speed is lost on every hop including the first jump). Instead, the CB flies more if you use more cue speed. It is a cause and effect sort of thing.

FYI, this effect also happens with follow shots, again partly due to slight cue elevation, and party due to squirt (CB deflection) into the table.

Enjoy,
Dave
Thanks for validating what I have believed for years! Also notice he does hit cb a little
above center. You have to,to get cb to "squat".
SVB may stroke a little sidearm, many players who started young do.

The main thing i love about his 10 ball break is he is actually trying to accomplish something in the break rather than hitting it hard as he can!

Popping the cue ball so the 1 travels towards the corner and getting the perfect transfer of energy in the rack! Dont understand why there are side rail breaks in 10 ball games!

I do. After watching Earl playing just off of the side rail on his 10 ball breaks I tried it several times along with my playing partner. It didn't work for me and I basically went back to my old standard 9 ball break (which is pretty much where Shane breaks from). HOWEVER... my partner (a lefty) after I showed him about where Earl sets his break, made the 10 the first time that he tried it. He used the rail break the rest of the night... made the 10 ball 3 times that night and had at least 4 times that he left it hanging. He was shooting from the left rail just at the head string (about a balls distance off of the rail) and kept finding the far right corner pocket. Most every time he also would drop at least one ball off of the break.
It doesn't work like that for me (on either side of the table) but if he can keep pushing the 10 at the same pocket nearly every break... stay with it. It's the only break that he uses now at 10 ball.
The only problem is that when the 10 is hanging... he better clean the table because I'm gonna combo/carom to win the 1st chance that I get if I don't see an easy run.

Standard rack or magic rack?
And what type of cueball control and 1 ball control did the side rail break give?
I still believe that svb with his 10 ball break is genius

Great job, Iulian. This might be the best slo mo vid of Shane's break mechanics.
agreed 100%! Thanks for doing these HD slo-mo's.

back to the table trying to mimick that Shane's lift-pause-forward transition :)

awesome awesome video! is there also a slo-mo of Bustamante breaking? i'd love to see that.
