In a recent thread, some interest was expressed in knowing more about Shane Van Boening's record in 10-Ball challenge matches, especially long ones. So I have prepared this list (excludes matches in tournaments). Please let me know of any corrections or additions (if you are sure of your info).
• Scores are given for SVB first, then his opponent.
• The W or L for each match shows whether SVB won or lost the match.
• All matches were on 9-foot tables except for the 3 matches noted otherwise.
• The numbers in brackets for multi-day matches are the games won by each player for each of the match days (not the cumulative scores after each day of play).

What I recall re Kazakis... Kazakis invited Shane for the tournament plus a 5K USD challenge match. It was 10 ball race to I think 30. It had some sort of goofy break rules. Maybe it was something like "must break outside the box". Kazakis won easily. Maybe almost doubling Shane's score. I'm pretty sure there was a stream. There was much discussion on AZB at the time. This was when Eknomopolous was still the top Greek (to us) and competing regularly.

Are you thinking of the Chinakhov match in Moscow in 2015? That's the one where they broke from outside a 2-diamonds-wide non-break box and Shane lost 22-30. The significant match on Shane's trip to Greece in 2014 was against Ekonomopoulos after the Athens Open: https://forums.azbilliards.com/thre...ov-10-ball-challenge-match-nov-6-2015.410377/
I think Shane played two sets against Kazakis before the 9-Ball tournament, but I'm not aware of any stream for those or any significant discussion on AzB.

Amazing work. I was hoping you would do this someday.

Missed one match. SVB beat Alex at cue club in 2010 40-20 with about $75,000 in the middle. I was the one who left the pool room with the cash, SVB and I met at my room at the Riv and chopped up the $. $10K of the middle was mine. I gave SVB his end we finished getting all the cash organized and the sun was just rising. Life was good😊

I’m 100% certain of the score, bet amount and pretty sure of the year.

Thanks; can you confirm the date -- month, day, year? A one-day match I imagine? Were they in Vegas for something else (that could help identify the date)?

I’m trying to figure that out/

There was no TAR going on, it was either the last year or next to the last year at the Riv. One of Charlie Williams events.

SVB met with Alex at around 8pm. I put up $5000, I had $20,000 in the safe deposit box at the casino. I couldn’t find the damn key to the box (it was in the main cage at the Riv). I wanted to bet $10,000. I found the key the next day between the frame and seat of my car which was in valet. So I only got $5,000 bet

I’m telling the story to demonstrate how clear I recall this.

It wasn’t being streamed. However someone was posting the score possibly here and other social media.

I was driving a white Bentley which I bought in January 2011. (That just popped into my brain) so had to be 2011 as I didn’t keep that car long. It was warm so may-June 2011.

When SVB got about to 24-25 games it was late 3am maybe. Cue Club is in a bad area, I played out of that room for years. I knew the $ was posted as I gave SVB $5000. I wasn’t there for that. I got there at 4ish and SVB had 32-33 games. He was clicking them off fast,

I decided to go meet him at Cue Club to get the $ to the car, being alone wasn’t a good plan. So I went out the back way of the Riv which was real close to Cue Club if you know the shortcuts

I got there SVB needed 5-6 games I’d guess. Alex was white as a ghost, shell shocked-I’ve never seen Alex look like that before or after that night.

40-20 was the final. 2 to 1 in games.

Went into the office with SVB we counted it down. We decided that I’d take the cash to the Riv (at that time someone else got robbed after a post on some site woke up the robbers and that didn’t end well) so SVB went out to his truck super fast and drove around the corner. I went to the Bentley super fast and met him around the corner. Took the short route back to the Riv. He didn’t know that route-we joked about him being a tourist in Vegas

Went to the room, how sweet it was. Counted it out, cut it up. Said good night and on to the next action.

Sorry for the long story but it was a fun time, real life chopping up the cash is never bad.

So yeas 90% sure it was 2011 spring or early summer. I kept that car maybe 18 months, I remember it was pretty new and crispy that trip-I drove out from LA. Slight chance it was 2012. I’m 100000% certain it was 11 or 12 and 90% it was 2011.

In the room I asked SVB how he won the session. He said he had his break working and Alex’s break was terrible, he kept getting kicked and couldn’t get anything started. 40-20 is a monster win over Alex playing any thing.

Could it have been May, 2011? The US Open One-Pocket and US Open 10-Ball events were that month at the Riviera, sponsored by CSI. Alex played in the One-Pocket and finished 3rd. Shane won the 10-Ball and Alex was 13th/16th.

Has to be right.

The weather was May for sure I remember that.

The Bentley was new as I got it in Jan 2011, it was a model year 2010.

2012 I was living in LA full time and didn’t come to Vegas, I was just talking to Mrs Fatboy about that.

If you want to put a * next to it, I’ll talk with SVB next time I see him and see what he recalls. We have spoke about this set a few times over the years. So I know he remembers it.

Love your stats, happy to help out any way I can. It’s important that they are accurate and you do one hell of a job with them 🙏🏼👍💪🤩
