he was definitely one of the top players. does he still play?
Yes, but I think literally once a year at the DCC. He still goes deep in the banks and one pocket. He stopped doing the full touring pro routine I think in about 2005 when he started and ran his own regional tour in the South East.

Funny, the first televised match of this tournament was Efren vs Jose. We were all so excited to watch it. The camerawork was the worst I’ve ever seen, and completely ruined the match. They were zoomed in on the CB and chasing it around the table. Someone from here called Helfert who was on site, but not part of the production crew, and he helped the cameraman a bit. I think they ended up having a fixed view as that was the best solution.

The second thing I remember was the prize money was something like 1/3rd of the advertised amount. I forgot if it was due to low turnout or missing sponsors or something else. The promoters had a player’s meeting before the start to ask if the players would prefer to keep 1st place the advertised amount (which I believe was 30k?), or redistribute it more evenly throughout the pay field. Efren was the only player to vote keep it 30k. He ended up winning of course.

The third thing I remember was it was the “first annual Galveston” and it never had a second year.

The final thing I remember is I went on tilt betting. I think it was my first “tilt” on AZ. I bet on Efren to double dip Shannon in the finals after being down the whole event. I either bet it even or gave odds to boot. Of course everyone wanted efren to win so I had to give odds. Efren won both sets hill-hill I think. It was a great sweat.

Yep, the GOAT beat SD 3-1,3-2. Cliff was 3rd. IIRC, the promoter was getting $$ from AshleyFurniture and something went sour. Not sure of all the details.

This is a good one pocket match with added Bill Incardona / Efren story during the last 30 minutes.

The story was good! It's broken up into 3 parts, starts at 2:06:40. Then continues a few minutes later. Then the final part is immediately after Daulton wins.
