One way of getting out of the side pocket straight in trap.

Im guessing everyone probably already knows this but just maybe someone
wont.
This shot is hit with a certain draw stroke, kinda like a delay draw.
It takes a little practice but once get the feel of the stroke its pretty simple.
When you use one tip of right or left the ball wants to bend as its being drawn back.

Got a shot you would like to share?

This diagram reminds me of a great parctice drill for players learning the game to intermediate level.

If you move 8pack's red object ball closer to the side plcket so it's 0ne diamond away, and move the cue ball forward so it's in the very center of the table, you should be able to make that object ball and get the cueball to ANY spot on the table.

In most cases, there are 2 or sometimes even 3 different ways to get the cueball to the same place on the table from this standard shot.

Also you can shoot the ball into the left side of the pocket or the right side to create an angle. I'm only mentioning this because we have a lot of beginners on the board.

Here's one that comes up all the time, but I see players screw it up and they have no idea what happened. This is a shot everyone NEEDS to have. In a nutshell, you got too straight and now you must move the cue ball all the way across the table. Anything with draw will probably scratch.

The trick to this shot is it's absolutely essential that you DON'T hit very high on the cue ball. Yes, you're using high left... but if you hit with the usual pure topspin you'll dive forward with the cue ball almost immediately. The ball drives into the long rail just below the pocket and zigzags uselessly. It may even follow the object ball into the pocket.

You must hit just a little above center and focus mainly on the left. By hitting close to center, the cue ball stuns sideways pretty sharply into the rail, and bounces out quite a bit before the topspin takes.

A lot of players think they need to hit fairly high to make the cue ball really drive into that long rail and bounce far off of it. But it's the force of your hit that makes it bounce... not the topspin. The amount of top needed is actually fairly small. The force and the sidespin do the heavy lifting.

Also important: cheat that pocket, cutting as thin as you can without risking a miss.

Page 1: Hitting correctly, without too much top.
Page 2: Typical screwup, too much top.
Page 3: Typical screwup 2, the shooter fails to aim properly. They end up overcutting the OB either because the shot deflected quite a bit or because they let wishful thinking cloud their judgment and tried to cheat the pocket too much. The ball rattles out violently.
