share the wealth on dc++

I got hooked up on dc++ and there's an impressive amount of pool video out there. I'm asking that people make an effort to share what they leech. I noticed a few of the people who leech my shizzo are moving the files out of their shared directories after they're finished downloading - so other people can't DL them. That is not cool - it F's up the whole sharing process. So don't be a tightwad with your bandwith...and share a little. And hug your neighbor.

I tried getting hooked to DC++ two weeks ago and just lost my patience (I'm not exactly computer-inclined). The thing is so arcane. But I won't lose heart, I promise. I'll probably have to search and print out all of the DC++ threads on this forum before I get it going, though!

Lewdo, I remember seeing your name on the list. Don't lose patience, downloading pool vids from dc++ won't happen in minutes or even hours. Mostly it requires leaving your computer on for several days to get yourself an open slot and keeping your downloads going.

Just send me PM when logged on the poolhub if you have problems.

Can any of you DC'ers torrent some of your vids? I don't really have vids to torrent, but after I dl them initally I can keep on sharing for awhile. DC++ took too long for my taste. I am a BIG torrent fan. :D

Mikko-

I've been on for a few weeks now. I've got a bit of stuff and I moved most of it over to my shared folder, but I don't have room on my hard drive for 20 or more gigs to be shared. Do you have a separate hard drive?
What about all my dvds? They seem to take forever to upload. I converted one of them to divx, but it took me all day to covert and I don't have the time to convert everything.

What do I need to do to be a better sharer on DC++?

Dennis

p.s. I contacted the EPC people. dvd not avail yet but they will let me know.

Why waste your time downloading choppy video that takes forever to download. Watch Espn matches or buy some used accu-stats off ebay. Much better quality and you can watch it on your television while your reading news on AZ :)

No offense Christopher, but I have seen some damn good video come off of the net...nothing "choppy" about it. Plus, somethings people share are rare and you just can't up and watch it on ESPN or buy it off e-bay. And, keep in mind that what ever you dl you can burn to DVD and still watch it on your television while you read the news on AZ :)

I'm on the DC++ thing, both giving and receiving. I need to take the time to sort through everything I now have into some kind of order. (The best DC++ users have their files sorted very nicely like this.) The main thing I do not like is people who have made bad analog rips from ESPN broadcasts. ESPN is pretty much the only thing I can actually get from my Cable, and it's poorly done at that. I'm interested in all the great stuff from Europe and the Far East we poor schlobs in the USA don't see otherwise.

I'm with you there. I was pleasantly surprised to find the EPC 14.1 semis and finals (Where Hohmann goes 125 and out twice) a few weeks after the tournament. I guess someone must have captured the live feed and then shared it. Lots of other good stuff there, too.

The good thing about bittorrent is that it sorta forces you to share, while u download ur uploading pieces of the file to someone else, but the hub works fine, I gatta start loggin in more often though. I've gotten about 4 gigs of matches from there over the past year or so. Most people I think do not share their download folder, I think its best to keep them separate but after u the download completes they should move the file over into a shared folder though. Everybody just has to remember to share :) thats what makes P2P apps work.

Well the problem that I had with DC++ was the connection to the user, where as with bittorrents I have no problem with connections, regardless of my firewall and I can dl a video in roughly 24 hours, where as with DC++ one mp3 file took days and still never completed. I just wish someone would take the inititive to torrent some of what they have. A guy posted a few weeks ago that he has a tracker soley for pool vids, however the selection is week. Personally, I think there is no reason why this tracker can not offer the same selection as DC++. I would torrent the files if someone would send me a data disc...like I said, I just had too many problems w/ the hubs to acquire them that away.

Thanks for your help and encouragement, Mikko. Believe me, I'll be back! Unfortunately I only have about one file...and a half available for sharing. Should that be enough for a start?

You must have a slow connection. I have cable and can DL an MP3 in about 20 seconds. DC++ is a fantastic place for pool vids and all kinds of other stuff. I have aquired about 40 GB of pool matches over the last year or so. Thanks to all that share and share alike.

Peace

LOL...it is a cable connection and the mp3 I was trying to get was from you. And I'm not saying it is not a great place and asset to the sharing community, I am either too dumb to work it, or it doesn't like me.

It is a P2P file sharing program that you have to download. Do a search for Dc++ here in the main forum and on CCB and you should find detailed instructions. I know they are more detailed on CCB because that is where all my dumb blonde questions are.

I agree
With maybe one or two exceptions everything I have downloaded has been
very good quality. Some of it very high quality.
I even got Mosconi playing Fats six ball !! Not the best quality but its old.

I'm sorry sharky. My upload speed is kaka, I think that is the only problem you were having. You should try it again, there are many others that you can DL ALOT faster from.

Ahh, thank got it's saturday.
