Shim Stock

I remember my dad having a package of brass shim stock that had several different thickness's which was dispenced through slots in the box. The box was left to me in his tools and now that I need it I can't find it, I need two 1/2 inch by 6 inch strips 2 thousands thick to shim one of my headstocks. My local Ace hardware don't carry it and I need a supplier I can order a pack from, if you have any ideas please let me know. I have about 20 sets of feeler guages but none long enough to do the headstock without using several pieces per side and that don't seem cool. Thanks ahead--Leonard

MSC has what you need. The site is mscdirect.com. They have plastic shimstock, brass shimstock, etc. in all different thicknesses and styles. I believe they also have brass shimstock in rolls.

Check your local craft supply stores. They will not have the rolls but most have sheet stock.

This is very kind Charlie

I have some that is .001 steel. Free of charge for such a small amount, if you can use it.

I guess I would need 4 six inch long pieces of the steel .001 thickness to double up with and I don't mind paying and covering the mail cost, let me know what you think.--Leonard Holmes
