shimming the pockets?

I could use some information on shimming my pockets. I bought the material and want to do it myself. I will un bolt the rails and remove the staple on the corner fold insert the shims and restaple. Please let me know if that sounds right or is there really more to it??? The cloth was put on 3 years ago and I should have done it then but thought friends and family would play on it more then they do and I left the pockets loose for their benefit.

Another issue I have is, the seems of the slate have some hard seem filler left that needs to be removed. The installer did not do a good job getting the 100 years of slate seem junk off. So, while I have the rails off I want to tackle that issue as well. I was thinking of unstapling the cloth and pulling it back to expose the seems for sanding. Also, I was thinking of taking wood filler to the area you staple the cloth too inorder to sure it up some. Any thoughts???

If the cloth on the rail was cut/stapled tight you probably won't have enough cloth to squeeze in another facing and be able to restaple the cloth. Adding facings is not the best way to tighten pockets. To do it right you extend the rail wood and install new cushions and facings (and fresh rail cloth).

With the rails off you can remove the bed cloth and tackle the seam problem. You should be able to restaple the bed cloth without messing with the wood slate liner but if you have a gazillion staple holes then wood filler may help or you can staple to the underside of the slate liner if the cloth will stretch that far.
