I just viewed Shooting Gallery. In short, it was horrible. It is the type of movie that you will find in the 5.95 bin in the middle of the electronics section in walmart.

Agree 100%. You would think with the success of "The Hustler" and "Color of Money", Hollywood would crank out watchable pool movies, but instead we get "PoolHall Junkies", "Stickmen" and "Shooting Gallery", none worth a watch IMO. Why is it so hard to make the pool scenes believable - I know these 3 flicks had technical advisors; couldn't they teach Mars or Prinze or whoever at least how to form a bridge? I've shown a lot of beginners the basics over the years, and they almost all looked more adept after a few hours than some of the clowns in these dogs (e.g. "Tenderloin Tony" - couldn't they find an actor who knew at least a little about pool?) Maybe Kevin Trudeau will finance a decent pool flick - there is definitely a large audience if you consider all the millions of people who play the game.

YEAH--KT's $--Cain Devore and The Beard write--AZ's in minor roles---just planting seeds---needs to depict the real deal, esp. some of the old school antics and treachery:)

I kinda liked Poolhall Junkies. Wasn't bad for the $6.99 I paid for it. :-)

I thought PHJ was decent at best. Doesnt hold a match to tCOM which is my fav and The Hustler. However, Shooting Gallery was hard to follow and it seems they spent more time talking about pool matches then actually showing them, and what they did show wasnt to great either.

I watched Shooting Gallery last night aside from poor bridges and dropping pool terminology way out of context, does anyone talk like that in a real room?? The 8 ball tat on Ving Rhames head was cool....Why don't movie makers throw in some real talent for backround actors players....

Is no actor coordinated enough to make a closed bridge??????? Freddy Prinze can make it look like he can pitch decent in Summer catch but he can't close a bridge????

They don't use instructors as tech advisors...

It seems like they use poolplayers as technical advisors, but they apparently can't teach others how to at least LOOK like a poolplayer! Give me 60 minutes with any of those jokers and they would pass for a pro...

I recently saw PHJ and I liked it. Though not quite enough to add it to my DVD collection. It was close though. I thought the pool scenes were better than most movies. Ok, so nobody can make a decent bridge. If that is the biggest criticism of a pool movie, then I think they probably did a good job. The average slob isn't even going to notice those kinds of details.

SPOLER ALERT!!!

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the end. Mars Callahan's character kept talking about how he wanted to be a professional, not just a hustler. Yet, when the game was on the line, he resorted to a cheap, back alley trick to win.

Still better than the average billiard movie though.
