Shooting Hard

Because we have to TEACH them not to do so. That is the main thing that I stay on people about in my place.
I didn't know they did think that. I suppose the casual player playing slop and unaware of position play figures he has a better chance of something going in if he's banging them. But I don't know any serious pool players that think this way.
If they are young guys they are trying to prove how tough they are and impress chicks!!
I hate playing near those ass clowns who hit every shot so hard the cue ball and object ball bounce three or four times per shot.

As a beginner player, I wasn't aware that position play was possible. My shot strategy was to make the ball. Later, I learned about using follow and draw to control the cue ball.
I also think when we concentrate and bear, we unconsciously apply more force. In playing pool that could be counter intuitive, softer is more control. Plus it doesn't help that shortly after I got hooked on pool, the Color of Money and I started to emulate Tom Cruise; all hard stop shots.

IMHO most people do not know better. LESSON time, or Clinic time.
Just for grins I did a search on bangers.
" Definition: Bangers is one of a number of derogatory terms better pool players use to remark on their neophyte colleagues. A new player can only "bang the balls around" rather than find the pocket consistently."
"Those bangers couldn't find the bottom of the pocket with a fishing reel and line," exclaimed "Fast Frankie" to "Tommy Two Pockets".
My thinking is the generations after us, ( I'm 60 ), were raised without hearing the word no. Not all but most IMHO.
The first pool hall I played in if you were about to abuse the table you got the boot. You also had to earn the right to play on table 1.
Today even with the cost of new cloth everyone is afraid to tell the banger you can't do jump shots or masse' shots here.
Just days after a table gets new cloth I see holes on the table.
