Janis is from Port Arthur, Texas. Lots of little dive bars back then and they all had a couple of barboxes. She moved to Austin where she was 'discovered' by Kenneth Threadgill (he turned a service station into one of Austin's first bars).
Threadgill's is still there today (two locations), both restaurants, with great food and lots of cool pics of the past.
Then, Janis headed to SF and the world discovered her. She does show some good form in that pic. Wonder where it was taken?
