shooting with contacts lens?

has anyone out there gone from no corrective lens and shot pool for awhile and then starting wearing contacts? was it hard to adjust to make balls? if so how long did it take? did you notice a big difference?

For me it was GREAT. I went from wearing glasses for years, and adjusting my head postion for them to being able to hold my head in a more normal and to me, a more comfortable position.
If you are going from no correction to lens's, you will probably find yourself getting slight headaches at first, they should go away once your eyes adjust. Then from there, you can go with what you SEE, instead of what you THINK are the edges of the balls.
Get them, you wont regret it! :D

i was thinking about getting contacts also...

i always had perfect vision.. all up untill last year when i realized i was having trouble seeing far away...

long shots especially now.. only certain ones, i find myself not being able to adjust anymore.. close up the balls are fine.. but what is killing me.. is about 8 feet away and they start getting alittle hazey..

so i got glasses... thought it would help me out big time..
so when i tried them, i couldnt make three balls in a row.. way to hard especially on the half table shots.. dont know if its the glasses itself like how they keep going to the end of my nose or not..

but i am hoping contacts make it feel more natural..

any opinions on this?

well i tried them the other day and everything looked different and sharper (much sharper). even the cloth. it didnt seem to help me pocket balls any better. in fact it seemed worse. kinda wierd huh. im thinkin it just needs more time. hopefully someone out there has some insight.

It takes normally 2-4 weeks to adjust to contacts within Pool. I wore hard contacts for 38 years, and even then the best I could get was 20/40 (I have very bad eyes with astigmatism front and back of eyes. I have shot a couple times with glasses, and it was an horrendous experience, and I never want to experience it again.

Last month, I had to change my contacts to soft lenses because of the corneal scarring I have, and so far the transition has been pretty smooth.
I was worried about consistent clarity and my astigmatism (I have Acuvue with astigmatism correction for right lense, another brand for left eye), but I have managed pretty well. I had to make 7 trips to the eye doctor total, with him adjusting me with temporary lenses along the way.

I had trouble with 2 types of shots in Pool, and I diagrammed them on Cuetable, printed out, and took them to my eye doctor to explain to him.
I was aiming one way, but the cue ball was hitting 1/4 to 3/8" off where I aimed. My eye doctor made corrections to my temporary lenses.

The final result has been good though, and the good news is that I now can read the 20/25 line with them, so everything is looking a little sharper to me too. I have settled in to playing with them, and I don't have any problems except for long shots and looking out the top of my eye, they need a second to settle in to the top of the eye position for the lenses before shooting. (have a floating effect for a second or two).

I consider this a MAJOR change for me, so I have been real sensitive towards any slight problems or nuances of irritation or blurriness.
I now get a 6 pack of each lense every six months, and wear 1 set for a month, and then go to a new set. I have had the new soft lenses for a month, and I am doing well with them, winning with them. My play, although, was less than normal, when I was going through the adjustment period with temporary lenses on me.

I have always thought that seeing with contacts enhanced slightly seeing Pool balls and cuts, because the reflection of light is slightly more. You will need sunglasses though in the morning sun, or when it is bright.

I've worn glasses since I was 5. When I went to contacts a good many years ago, it made it big difference in my game. I don't remember that I had any serious problems getting used to them. I've had both glasses and contacts for about 15 to 20 years, I think. Wore the contacts mostly to play pool and long trips in the car, driving. I have a pair that's about two years old now, that I can wear for short periods. Not working now, so don't have money for new ones. Surprisingly, I play quite well with glasses now.

I started with single focus glasses

and now use bi-focal or as they are called multi focal contacts and the whole game has changed for the better! :) I have used both Accuvue and Bausch and Lomb The B&L lenses are the best.

I got contacts for the first time a little over a year ago, after wearing glasses for about ten or so years, because of pool - I was tired of shooting with glasses, and having to look just under/over the top of the frames.

It was one of the best things I've ever done - I love it. I didn't have any real adjustment time, as best as I can remember - and I've had no problems at all.

If you're due for an eye exam (once a year), find a good doc, make an appointment, and check it out. My doc gave me a pair of disposables to try out and see how I liked'em before I put in an order. Other docs may well do the same thing. I also had to go in for another appointment so the cute assistant girl could show me how to put'em in/take'em out, proper care, etc.

I started playing pool again last year after a 40 year layoff. My vision is very bad. I am legally blind in my left eye and wear strong tri-focals. I kept getting headaches and aches in my neck from trying to lift my head to lood through my glasses. I have never worn contacts before.

The optician had to try several brands because of my astimatism and other eye problems. I wear a contact lens in my right eye to play pool and that is the only time I wear it. The rest of the time it is back to my glasses.

Next to starting to play again, it is the best thing I have ever done for my game.

I switched to contacts from glasses about 9 years ago and it was great for my pool game. It took me about 7 nights of playing before I adjusted but as stated, everything seemed sharper. I can't imagine playing pool with glasses anymore.

Warning though.
Some contacts may dry out faster then others in pool rooms or bars with lots of smoke. It might pay to keep a small bottle of eye drops or solution with you. If your eyes get dry, don't rub em, it just makes things worse. Even just splashing cold water over your face/eyes every could of hours will help. I am not a doc, but have experienced all of the above in a pool hall when first started and learned how to prevent it from happing so I can keep playing comfortably for hours.

Ditto form me too... i wore glasses and got sick of them riding down and looking over the rim and begrudging my head position to overcome looking across the rim.... so i went and took the plunge with contacts... best thing i ever did!! Took me a few days to adjust but will never go back.... I think my game was better just because i could actually see 'right' I do carry eye drops in my case and a spare set of contacts just in case < i do monthlies>... last thing you want is to be at a big tourney and your contact rips or falls out. I can say it never has happened at pool for me but why take the chance :-)

Great Too

For me it was great. And I wear mono-vision lenes. Far sight in one and near sight in the other.

Hal

thanks for all the responses, but i think some may have missed the point. i was hoping to hear from people who went from nothing to contacts and the results of it. not so much glasses to contacts. i am asking because i have ok vision. sometimes its hard to drive at night. when i switch to contacts i have better then 20/20, but i have more trouble making balls. i was hoping someone had soemthing similar to share. i was told after a couple weeks i should be playing better. anyone out there try this?

Chris, glasses sliding down your nose changes the focal distance and the rims get in the way. Then you have to hold your head in an uncomfortable position just to see. Looking thorough glass is just not as clear as looking through a contact lens, plus you shoot in your natural head position.

I have a pair of Decot sports glasses I'd trade you out of a case or something if you like. They will stay in position. To be honest though I never could get use to them although I played pretty good with them after a couple of months.

Your near sighted so at this point all you really need is single focus contacts. I made the switch a couple of years ago and I'd never wear glasses again to play. I wear two week disposable contacts so I get more mileage out of them since I only get to play once or twice a week.

It's a little problem at first putting them in and taking them out, still is, but at least I can see so its worth my time.

That is essentially what I did and only wore glasses for reading. At the time I played almost no pool but when I did is was without glasses or contacts. Another year or so went buy and my vision got worse so I tried contacts. It is a long story but I didn't give the contacts a fair shot playing pool. Then I bought Decot glasses thinking that was the answer. Well it wasn't and I still played very little pool. More recent, I started playing more so my quest was finding contacts that enabled me to see well and was comfortable. I think better lenses are out there comfort wise but what I have works. Now the only way I will play is with contacts.

I takes a little time to adapt. If your vision is good though, then I see no reason why it won't happen real soon. Perhaps missing some shots is not your eyes at all.
