I just received a call from a representative from the Sands telling me the tournament had been cancelled and my room would be cancelled and my deposit refunded. Anyone else hear anything about this? Anyone know why the tournament was cancelled? My guess would be a lower than expected number of entries. Its a shame, I was looking forward to the tournament. Another tournament at the Sands that doesn't happen. This means they are down to one tournament a year (Barbox Tourn. in Feb.) unless they cancel that one too in the future. The Sands used to be such a supporter of pool. This economy is tough on everyone.
Shootout at the Sands Cancelled???

I just got a phone call as well it was from the BCA and they told me the "Shootout At The Sands" Bar Table Tournament has been cancelled. Only little over 50 players had signed up and the Sands was going to add $15,000. but not enough players signed up in time to give the Sands a full count of who was coming.
This is sad for there would have been many more players paying late and paying at the gate. I mentioned that to her over the phone but the Sands had already pulled the plug. I also asked her if all of the BCA players knew about the tournament as well and she said they knew about it, but the turnout was too low to proceed.
I would suggest all of the players who signed up need to cancel their reservations with the Sands and the lady from the BCA that called is not putting through the charges on VISA's for the entry fee.
Another sad day for pool. I guess what we need to do in the future is get the players to sign up in advance with a deposit, then approach the Sands and say OK here is the list of players coming and we have 150+ players, then we would be set to go. I am not sure if 150 players is the magic number for the Sands but we can find out what they are looking for to make in work?

Casino/Hotel/Conference business is WAY off and heavy rumblings around Reno
tell of a possible closure of the operation in the near future ... They are operating
presently with a "skeleton crew" (since the sale to Terrible's, Inc.)
I hope that is not true, as the Sands has always been one of the "rock-solid"
Billiards Venues we all count on, year after year ...
As for the Shootout, the "possible" cancellation was announced yesterday at
the monthly Hard Times Sacramento 9-Ball event and now here on AZB ...
It is quite clear that any and all whom are planning to play in any future Tournaments
would be well-advised to sign up early when an announcement is made ...
