Short or Tall tip on a break cue

which one should break harder and why?

In my head I feel like a short tip breaks harder. I don't know why.

If you are less then 5'6" tall you should be using the short tip.
If you are 5'7' or taller you should be using the tall tip.
This is basic cue knowledge.

Within the same type tip the thinner tip should play a bit harder as it has less room to compress. That is, if the breaker has the power to compress it. It is like the golf ball in golf. Some people play a higher compression ball & they don't have the swing to compress the ball & thus they lose distance.

Hope this helps.
