Shorter break cue

I can’t recall who it was. But One of the regular posters here mentioned his breaker is shorter than standard maybe 5 days or a week ago.. Is there a benefit to it?

There is only one player that I see on occasion with a shorter break cue. It’s not due to him being short. He’s probably close to 6ft tall. The first time I saw him in the hall I honestly thought he was toting around a masse cue. Nope. It’s his breaker. Must be at least 2” shorter than a regular cue or I wouldn’t have even noticed.

I've never fully understood the logic for it, but Mezz has their Power Break II which is 4" shorter than normal

I didn't stick with it but I was having success choking up on the break for a brief time.

Even with the Mezz, I don't think you really are choking up, just holding it at the end, which puts you at the end of a wrap on a normal cue.

I've had the Mezz Power Break II for like 10 years. Solid break cue where you can get a lot of power into the break. I've used break cues from Pred, McDermott, Gulyassy, J&J, etc. Truthfully? They all feel similar, but I like the stiffness from the shorter cue. It just feels like you get a more compact swing but it could all be in my head.

The issue here is that the break nowadays isn't exactly a full power hit. At least in 9ball it's still the "controlled" break idea.

A friend of mine has a shorter break cue that he swears by , I've not tried it and he moved back to Wyoming but returns from time to time to visit if given the chance I'll give it a try .

My break cue is a Predator BK2 that I like a great deal but a bucket list break cue would be one from Mike Gulyassy .

Not with Kaci.....

I never got this. If you want a shorter grip, you can choke up on a normal length cue. You can get normal length cues in all sorts of weights. The only thing that really makes sense is that a shorter cue will be a bit stiffer. Again, you can always get a longer cue with a different taper, so even that really isn't a big deal.

I'll stick to normal length cues. Much more flexible, and I can always choke up.

I bought one of those Elite brand break sticks with the wooden pin. It's about 2" shorter than a standard cue. In my cue rack I have a jump stick, the break stick, a normal playing stick and one with a 30" shaft, then one with the butt and shaft equal lenght. They look like a staircase 🤣

Agree with this in general but the balance changes. I wouldn’t say go out and buy one, but if you ever get a chance to try it to give it a shot. It does feel different. Not better or worse but just different than choking up on a regular cue.

From a marketing standpoint, players can find advantages in any configuration of gear that can be reasonably hyped.
Enter load of short stock blanks. Hmmm...

kidding...
