Shorter bridge length on Top spin shots

I have had problems making shots in which I apply top spin to the cue ball (I don't have this problem with draw shots) It seemed that the way I found to fix this, was shortening my bridge length a good bit.

I am wondering why this is and is this common with other players.

Be good to know what you mean by having problems with this shot.
 
Most probably because shortening the bridge length is increasing accuracy of your cueing of the CB. When you hit off center while applying top spin, you masse the shot.

When using my normal length bridge, my right arm seems to have too long of a follow through when doing top spin shots. And my shot seems to do a "dip".
 
With shorter bridge length, a cue cannot steer to the left or right of its intended course quite as much as it would with a longer bridge length. So I'm guessing with the longer length there's a steering issue causing you to hit off-center when using top.
