i was going to be in the charlotte area this past weekend and I had some cue work i needed done so I decided to give Kevin a call. I'll say up front I wasnt quite sure what to make of him from just seeing his posts on here, sometimes he seemed a little gruff lol. Met him at his home pool room in mathews and hes a very pleasant and personable guy.......he gave me some nice input on some work i wanted done, made a few suggestions that came out wonderfully and saved me money, and took my stuff to work on it. Met him back at the pool room 3 hours later and all I can say is wow, very nice work, quickly done, great attention to detail, reasonably priced, what more could you want?
We decided to hang out and shoot some sets afterwards and we had a great time.......he shoots a pretty good stick although I was able to edge him out 2sets to 1 (sorry kevin i couldnt keep that to myself). I will say one thing, his break was killing me. That jump/break he makes is the bomb, he broke probably 21 or 22 racks, and i think he came up dry maybe twice, and i know he sank 4 balls on the break at least 3 times, probably averaged 2 the rest. The stick feels really solid, all the weight is above the handle, and its put together nice. Kevin does alot of cool little trick things to his sticks, special sleeves and inserts, very nice attention to detail. Although im not a "big pin wood to wood joint" fan, i did like how tight his joint was. You could just partially screw the shaft into his stick and it would be dead solid, no wiggle at all, very nice! I broke a couple times with it and it really moved the rack around, definitely a much better break cue than my sledge or j&j........i will probably bite the bullet and get my name on his waiting list for one once i sell some of these other cues im holding. I also shot some with his playing cue, and if youre looking for a sneaky that really feels like a house cue, definitely see kevin. That was the most solid hitting sneaky ive ever played with, more of a weighted forward stick as well but hit great.
All in all Kevin was great to deal with and im definitely going to be using him as my repair and tip man from now on. Thanks again kev
