Shots more likely to skid

It seams like when I'm shooting a ball with inside and a 1/2 ball hit from close distance and medium speed it has a much greater chance of skidding. Do you guys have similar experience? What shots do you feel have a more likely chance of skidding? Why do you do to avoid it?

For me it's more about speed. Certain shots are more effected by skid (generally in that 3/4 to 1/4 region). Harder shots almost never skid or at least I can't tell.
