Should accuracy lines be drawn on pool tables?

I use tailors chalk and make a line from the spot to the rail, comes in very handy for one pocket and also help line up the rack for the break. Not a permanent mark so it doesn't hurt the cloth.

Pretty unfathomable there would be any offense derived from being prohibited from drawing a line on a pool table when there are people out there who don't come to complete stops at stop signs and it is near impossible to buy a single unbruised and ripe banana at the grocery store.
Strongly Agree. The fkrs that text and drive… use their phone at movies…cheat on their taxes, start riots, beat women … spit in public…. Maybe pool table line on someone else’s tables are not a sin.

I have no lines on my table, in fact I even pulled the spots off, got tired of of them coming loose around the edges. I just use a washer with a 3/8 to 1/2 inch center, place it perfectly where the spot should be and use it as a stencil to fill in the center with permanent marker
the "spot marker" is there for more than marking the spot. During your break on the 1st ball the cue ball bounces on the way to the rack & typically hits the lead ball above center which drives the ball into the cloth. Do it enough without a spot sticker and you will end up with a hole in the cloth.

As much as I practice I think the cloth is usually ready to be replaced before that happens

if i had one i would have lines drawn on it and the rack out line as well since id always be playing 14.1 more than anything

Especially if he draws the lines crooked.

But seriously, I agree. It's their table, and they can fix it up anyway they want. They can even use orange cloth, and a purple 5 ball, if they so desire.

My goodness, how long has pool been played without anything other than a spot shot on the cloth?

If you need to use lines drawn on the cloth to play a better game of pool, you need to get your vision
checked. Lines or no lines, the game is played the exact same way so, IMO, it really should not matter.

Sure, tell that to WPA and the professional pool players.

You silly lad….I was referring to someone with a home table, not a pool hall that runs tournaments or any organization.
A clean table is just how pool should be played sans any lines or even a pool rack outline. And I still prefer green cloth.
It has nothing to do with being out of touch. Pool has a touch of nostalgia embedded within the game. I still embrace it.

I live in a complex where we have 9' tables. The manager has absolutely said NO Lines can be drawn. I think that al least the line on the back of the foot spot so the rack can be set up accurately.... but NO. Thoughts?
Noting to think about. He says no lines, so no lines. You don't need them.

My mother always said, "When you want to hear your song, don't pay to the monkey, pay the organ grinder". Who does the manager report to???

The manager is likely an employee of the entity that actually does own the tables. Communicate with the head of that entity and request that you be allowed to draw -- using a draftsman's plastic circle template sheet containing a one-inch circle -- not lines, but one circle for the head spot position and one at the foot spot position. After getting proper permission, use a tailor's removable white marker (available online) and refresh the indicated circles from time to time.

Those circles, not lines are all you need.

Also tell the real owner of the tables that you'd welcome the opportunity to form a team that will regularly perform all cleaning of the equipment free of charge.

Arnaldo ~ Been there, done all of the above successfully over the years in various places I've lived, when faced with unreasonable, essentially silly intransigence. If all fails, then it's time to methodically get as many valid signatures as possible on a petition and politely present a copy of that to the -- likely out of state -- owner of the complex. No owner or developer likes a complex or community full of unhappy residents.

Sounds like a great product to sell, temp template rack outlines.

Variations of the potential product can be:

Model A: 1x8x8 piece of pine wood to align the back rail with the back of the rack.
Model B: Triangle clamps, it is an add on to any triangle and provides arms that extend to the long rails and short rails.
Model C: Smartphone app to digitally verify the rack is with a specific margin of the correct area, should be uploaded to Fargo for AI verification of racking tolerances.
Model D: Printed cloths with the correct lines for all games, requires collab with Cloth Manufacturer

The concept of accuracy lines is common to sports fields like football, soccer and basketball.

The idea of promoting accuracy lines can give an edge to people that know how to measure based on reference guides.
