I think certain skills of our professionals are minimized because of the use of the jump cue. Years ago, I was a good shortstop, played good safeties and could masse and kick at the ball fairly well. Certain skills are not as necessary because of the jump cue which is, in my opinion, a tool which lessens the need to sharpen those skills.
I believe most all-around players would prefer the outlaw of the jump cue. We would then see a necessity to apply certain skills not as often used: kicking, kick safeties, three rail kicks, cushion caroms, English shots, or masse shots. The more creative and skilled player would have a slight edge and I believe the spectators would rather see those skills displayed rather than a jump shot. Just have the player jump balls with the same cue he plays with. The really tough jump shot requires dexterity, strength and height, attributes that most average pool players don't have. Which skill would you rather see in a match, a jump shot or a well executed masse shot?
