should tables be higher...

Tall players have an advantage of reach and don't need to use the lady's aid.

Why should they also get an additional advantage of a higher table???

Lower tables is the way to go:D :D :D

A guy at the poolroom told me that tables have been the same hight for over a hundred years...(30 inches to the slate)

If that is true, since man on average is taller now, shouldnt the table hight be raised...

That guy is full of it. Fred is exactly right - the old antique tables with the elephant legs were higher, and the pockets on the ones I played on were huge compared to today's standards.

I think it should be lowered until pool merges with shuffleboard.

Maybe it should be lowered until pool merges with curling -- at least that way we might have a chance to be part of the olympics. Curling does look a lot like Target Pool :)

Don't tell eBay that antique tables had elephant legs. They will ban the sale of them.

Excellent question....I'm 5'8" but I think raising them an inch or two would be a good idea.

Look at the Filipino's. They look so comfortable at the table because it's relatively higher to them.

I am looking at them - all the more reason to raise them up - and I kid you not!!

There is a place I play at with tables that are around 32 inches. I don't mind it too much. I'm 5'8 and I still don't need to use the rest that much.

In other words, I'm not concerned if they raised the table height just as long as it's not crazy.

YES...

I have a theory that your reach is more related to the height of your hips than your total height. I think once you get your hips above the table any extra leg length is kind of wasted, while height above the waist is helpful. If you can imagine someone 6 feet tall with 5 foot legs reaching over the table, you can imagine what I'm talking about.

I would like it too if tables were raised up a little bit. It's much more comfortable. I'm not that tall or that old, but it still gets tiring to bend over so far so many times.

A taller table probably would mean I couldn't reach a lot of shots being 5'4". My taller friends can reach shots where the exact same shot I can barely or can't reach at all. I have to use the bridge a lot more often, and I also find myself often setting the cue ball closer to the rails and settling for longer shots because I know from experience I would have to stretch if I positioned it differently.
