On the ultraskins, I always prime the tips, I use Loctite Gel Control,
after I scuff the tip, I apply the gel and let it activate, I even breathe on the gel, I was told that moisture is what activates the CA. Then after about a minute, I rescuff the tip and then reapply Gel and then do my standard application.
I have put on tip pads, for many different reasons, some of which are just the look and appearance that some people like, but I dont think it is necessary unless you are putting them on Ivory or Elkhorn or a ferrule of this type of material.
Just my opinion, take it for what its worth,
I have installed about 150 ultraskins so far, I have had 3 or 4 that a layer has come off while cutting them down, and I have had only 1 come off and that was after 6 months. So I have to say the track record so far is way above average, or just great.
