Should you practice artistic billiards?

Most pool players will experience organized pool.

The ultra rare members of the pool community experience artistic billiards.

Its niche, its unusual and you get burn marks on your table.

The advantages to learning artistic billiards is in the teaching of a set stroke.

Artistic billiards is recommended if you have a player with lots of energy or interest setting up shots on the table.

Here is a simple exercise you can try with your family/friends. Set up a dead combo 8 to 9 in the side pocket.

Then ask if anyone can make the 9 ball. The requirement is the cue has to be shot from the rail side.

The incoming player has the advantage of placing the 1, 2 and 3 anywhere to help make the nine.

It can be exciting when players have never seen a dead combo before.

In my opinion, one needs to learn the massé shots and the rest of artistic billiards is a waste of time. In my opinion.

Masse for beginner is too dangerous for the equipment.

I like the shot because you shoot forward and its not obvious the nine would go in the side.

Those are trick shots on a pool table.

This is artistic billiards

MitchAlsup, all of pool and billiards is a waste of time. It is a leisure activity. Why even try to subdivide?

Masse for beginner is too dangerous for the equipment.
While agreeing mostly with the "for beginner" preposition::

gentle arc massé harms nothing (¼-½ inch stuff) Beginners can learn these shots without danger.
backup massé does do harm (when you can't avoid cloth contact)
they are both called massé--using one word to denote an entire spectrum of angular momentum capabilities and result potentials and then banning everything in the spectrum is fraught with peril. {{witness Jump cues and jumping as an example set}}

But breaking, like the pros do, eats up the cloth too.
Scoop jumping and legal jumping harms the cloth, too.
medium massé (1"-BallWidth) is well within the capabilities of an SL4 without harming the table any more than a legal jump.
backup draw (is not really massé) but may be classified as such; and if one positioned the 3-ball such that you simple draw from the 3 to the 8 it is not really a massé at all.
backup massé (where the CB heads in one direction then reverses course without hitting anything) is within the capabilities of an SL6 without excess table wear.

In the long term; everything about the table except the wood and the slate are wear items. Cloth, rails, pockets,...
{{Heck, back in college {1974} we had to re-do the wood under the wood slates so table would still hold the nails/staples stretching the cloth {table from 1914} }}

I started practicing full vertical masse shots within six months of starting to play. Willie Mosconi told me to and I believed him. I have three masse shafts for my Balabushka.

Bob, the troll feeder <-- has ripped the cloth more than any jump-shot-shooting 3

Trickshots could be great for a viral social media trend.

No one has to film their face, its a short video and its likely the trickshots could be funny and extreme.

I like seeing videos of animals doing trickshots.

If you don't drive the creativity for promoting pool then its going to miss out on something called the internet connection.

I have an internet connection and my pool game went up since talking about pool on the forum.

Another way to look at is, are you taking advantage of how different online communities are setup for specific types of promotion?

Trickshots are quick attention grabbers, just add a few seconds of suspense and its a trending video.

Is it time for a new Venom? How would the WPA feel about paid trickshot exhibitions by players?

The mantle of pool traditions on social media, do they need to be sanctioned?

Why would anyone have a problem filming their face? It's a pool shot not a porno 😶‍🌫️

If we are talking about promoting trickshots in the Middle East, would trickshots performed without showing the women or person shooting be allowed? The only distinguishing feature is likely a golden cue with superconductor properties that only someone in the Middle East can afford.

Have you ever sold to high end clients?

Can you be realistic about the expansion of pool into other countries through social media?

Only in underground venues if we're talking live. Pre-recorded you're not gonna tell me that men in the middle east can't find much more on the internet than a lady in an evening dress in a trick shot video.

You see cultural norms as a hindrance. I see it as a major business opportunity!

But for real, we could start an underground gentleman's club in the middle east. We'll employ the ladies with the absolute HOTTEST ankles. I mean, can you imagine us rolling in a couple oil shiek's money?! I'm talking we'll be stuffing our mattress with it! Of course we won't be able to let anyone know, it's an invite only club. We might require a blockchain key in order to get past the bouncer. I mean, you know how it goes. One can never be too careful. With blockchain technology we can make sure that it's truly invite only.

If this sounds too risky for you, we can always employ some shapely dudes. I'll bring the duct tape, you help them get taped up and no one will be the wiser. If caught we can prove that we didn't violate local dress codes for females.

Let me know if this sounds good to you. Do you have a fax machine that I can send some non disclosure paperwork? That way no one can steal our idea.

Why bother with blockchain? Just use a private satellite link. Its Middle East money.

The table has to be more decorative, it has to look like a Royal table.

What other embellishments can you add on the table?

This one is almost fancy enough. You gotta remember to not stereotype, we are talking folks with money, not Disney's Aladdin. Expensive has nothing to do with royal.

The only problem is what should we do about glitter. We don't want glitter on the table, maybe ban the "ladies" from wearing glitter? Is this possible or too restrictive?

Can you imagine a request to have a helicopter airlift for a floating pool party in the sky?

Middle Eastern creativity starts at the maximum limit of every Western technology.

Is there such a thing as a sport hijab, moisture is a common problem. I will have to check for hijab fabric materials.

Land parties are too common place.

What about the guys who like a bit of sparkle?

Trick shots to pool are what moonwalking is to the 100 yard dash.
I see a lot of people posting pool trick shots on FleeceBunk. Many of them have no practical application -- they are just a form of "flexing" to show how swave and deboner the poster is. However ....

A good "trick shot" contains both skills and learning. Sometimes the viewer/learner never gets as far as mastering the skill or understanding the lesson, but I think it's useful to try a range of trick fancy shots if you want to really develop your game. For me, trying the shots in the back of Mosconi's second book showed me some things that I had not seen before and were valuable in the long run.
