Shoulder pain

Lately I've been playing in a more square on stance. I think it helps my game, since it helps me getting aligned with the shot better. But the last few days my shoulder has been hurting like hell. Okay, that might be a bit much, but I can really feel that something is wrong. Before it sometimes hurt after a long session, but it didn't last for more than at most a few hoursIt's been hurting for several days now. I guys it comes from putting to much weight on my bridge hand, but I don't really know what I'm doing wrong. The other thing I'm not quite happy with is that I feel that my head/weight is too much forward over the cue. I think solving one of the problems might solve the other, as getting my head/weight shifted further back would take some weight off the bridge hand, but I'm not sure how to get there.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I read your post as saying that your bridge shoulder is hurting...

i have the same problem if I play for more than about 3hours- it really gets uncomfortable and I am sure that it is a result of a repetitive motion type injury. Basically, the shoulder assembly is responding the same way to a repeated stressor and it is resulting in a fatigued body part.

I try to stretch the arm for a couple of minutes before playing, then again about 15 min into the session. I usually repeat every 30 mi or so and might even massage between shots. Seems to be helping.

Perhaps, as you say, it could be lessened by a positioning change. Have a couple of people who seem to know what they are doing (in pool) take a look at your stance and consider their advice.

I too have the same problem, cant seem to find a answer.Somedays it dosent bother me others it kills me & I see nothing I did different.

I really think that it has something to do with the changes in my stance, and that my shoulder is hurting because I'm putting too much weight on it. If you keep putting a lot of weight on your shoulder I guess it has to start hurting. I'll check with a few of the better players locally and see if they have any suggestions.

I did a search on RSB and found that this had been adressed there before. The fact that it might stem from faulty weight distribution was mentioned there as well. Since I've never had any problems with my shoulders before, and it started just after my change, it seems very likely.

I've been having the same problem. I recently changed my stance and stoke quite a bit. My stroking shoulder was sore all the time. I just chalked this up to the repetative motion I practiced over an over. My bridge shoulder would get sore also and at times I would get this shooting pain in that arm. Another problem I have is the result of an old injury. A couple years ago a muscle under my stroking shoulder blade started to spasm non-stop. This went on for about 8 months. It never stopped, constant spasm. During that time I was learning a form of martial arts called Xing Yi Quan. I told my instructor about it, he said he can fix it. He rubbed this stinking stink stuff on my shoulder blade. Woke up the next day and it stopped. I don't think it has done it since, however the muscle is sore and now that I have started playing more pool it gets more and more sore. Anyway, I went to get a massage this past Saturday and what a difference. My shoulders feel great and the muscle under my shoulder blade feels alot better. I took a few days off of pool and played last night. I felt no pain and my game was on.
