I have 2 burl wood combo cues and like the grain in both better than amboyna. One is cocobolo and ash burl points and the other is thuya burl with ebony points.
ash points one is a Carmeli and the thuya / ebony one is a Jim Pierce. one in the middle is a solid one piece of bocote used as my breaker from Schmelke.who made them?
I love that dark look. Looks like ebony until the light hits it right and then all the chocolate brown comes out.Dark Rosewood can look like ebony when finished. Amboyna is always nice but the availability has become a touchy subject. Narra bees wing could be an option for you too. Split wrap cue is Amboyna.
Yes sir. Probably core the Rosewood with purple heart and use amboyna for the collar and butt cap.Beautiful wood, in my experience probably best used for points and inlays, unless coring it. Have hit an amboyna forearm cue and it's soft; definitely a noticeable change in resonance when tapping on the wood compared to a harder wood.
A beauty, I love a classic design, definitely my style. Can you post a closer pic of the wrap. I was thinking of going with that. I had Tiger put a buffalo wrap on my Jacoby and love it. Its not too sticky and its got a bit of cushion to it, not like some of the thinner leather wraps. Is that what the spanish bull feels like? Here is a dark rosewood 1940s willie hoppe pro conversion. No amboyna, but has a spanish bull wrap. I suppose this a fairly classic design choice.
Try taking pictures outside in natural light.I will try to get a better shot. The rosewood is so dark, hard to get a good clean shot of the wrap.
It has some texture to the feel, but not sticky or slick. This one is not thick, so not cushioned. Feels like wrapless, with a bit of a soft texture. Which i prefer since i typically play with a wrapless.
Here is my Tascarella with a dark rosewood forearm with ebony points. A great combination, this one is wrapless, though.I love that dark look. Looks like ebony until the light hits it right and then all the chocolate brown comes out.
That's the perfect color, almost looks black, then the light brings out those gorgeous colorsHere is my Tascarella with a dark rosewood forearm with ebony points. A great combination, this one is wrapless, though.
I'm not well versed in the specific species', maybe you could help. Looking for something with nice figure and a very dark brown. What species is being referred to as "dark rosewood" here?
There are several Dalbergia woods that are pretty dark.
Unfortunately very dark rosewood and highly figured don't seem like good bed partners.I'm not well versed in the specific species', maybe you could help. Looking for something with nice figure and a very dark brown.
