Shuriken cue

I opened up a can of worms & took the rubber bumper off & was amazed that a 9" app. 1/2 " diameter hole drilled & filled with some kind of foam shit. I dug out the foam & curious what i can fill it with other than plugging it with a wood dowel. Anton at shuriken said they often do that to bring the weight down. Any help would be appreciated. If the best thing is to plug it i can have my friend who makes cues locally plug it but that involves some labor & cost. If i have to is there an alternative as i dont have a lathe.

It's best to hand it over to someone who knows what they are doing. Gluing in a plug can cause hydraulic pressure and that can easily split the cue, I've seen it happen. You could consider threading the hole so you can use weight bolts. If the hole is 1/2" now. 5/8-18 the next logical size up. If the hole is no bigger than 27/64" you can tap it 1/2-13

The hole is actually app. 3/4 " or 20mm. . If i fill it with foam what brand is good. One thought was filling hole with fiberglass resin which could be tapped .

Why would you do that?

What was your goal in digging the foam out?

Was the cue too light? Did it play badly?

Before your question can be answered adequately, we need to know what you want for the end product.

There are a myriad of solutions. You could fill with foam, and be right back to where you were, giving you another chance to dig the crap out again. You could plug it with a solid plug of anything from pine to purpleheart...and beyond. You could probably source a CF tube, fill it with light foam so it doesn't sound hollow, cap both ends and plug it with that, which would give you the ability to center drill after and add a screw for a bumper. There are about a billion ways of skinning this particular cat.

Anyone can figure out some kind of garbage to put in a hole, but nobody can figure out what the correct garbage is if you don't have a goal in mind.

Thats why I had asked him. Seems to me it was filled simply to deaden unwanted vibration. I'm no master cue builder but if I have to drill for weight relief I simply thread it. Then if someone wants to add weight they can or I can plug it with a rubber bumper and be done.
