Shy but wants to play

I'm So Stoked!!! Playoffs started at 6. I have bronchitis (what's new, I'm a sicko since my health took a turn 4 years ago) and would have rather been home coughing up a lung but instead went to feed my addiction.

Having only played 2 days in the last......well, 2 days........I was shooting fairly well, but far from on top of my game. My latest practice 'practice' has been to take all the difficult shots one game, then the easy shots the next. I probably bank/kick a whole game at a time, and while I still have very far to go, I'm getting better at them. It served me well last night and I used those skills to get out of some sticky places to win some games.

First up, I'm playing an sl/4 (I am still a 3). He needs 3 games to my 2. He gets the first one, I get the second, he gets the third and we're in the rubber match. He makes a fatal error and leaves his cue ball snookered, missing his shot on the 8. I don't, and win the match.

It's 10pm. I think I'm going home, which is all I want to do. I had a late lunch at 3 and didn't want to eat in the bar, so I was looking forward to going home to have some soup or Cream of Wheat and rest my achy, stuffy, sore head. :o

My team captain, Shawn, says, "Allright! All we need now is to win 3 out of 5 matches. Let's do it!"

WHAT!? TONIGHT???? Yes, we had to play for the title Tonight. I thought we finished up next week.

Double crap, no rest for the wicked, so I ordered a burger (it was actually good) and got my game face on.

Mario and Cameron both won their matches........we're playing on 2 tables now. I'm up next and so is Shawn. Shawn is a 6 playing a 5, and they throw me and guess who I get? Yep, the same sl/6 from last week!!!

He needs 5 games to my 2. Before the matches he comes up to me all smug and says, "You don't have to play if you don't want to.":angry:

I look at him like he's a new kind of insect and say rather loudly, "ARE YOU KIDDIN ME? LET'S GO."

He wins the lag and breaks, wins the first game. I win the second game and you could see in his face that he was not expecting that.

Shawn comes over and says, "If you win another game, I don't have to keep playing my match. (that will be the third match won, winning the playoffs). He's on his 2nd game, and he's winning 2-0. Okay, knowing he's got his end under control sort of let the pressure off me.

My opponent wins the next 2 games. He needs 2 games to my one. He makes a mistake trying to bust out a cluster, and I clear off some balls, leaving him no shot at the dreaded cluster he's been trying to break up. He gives me ball in hand and I run out the last 3 balls, sinking the 8 with this cut shot.

CueTable Help

Teammates say he threw his cue in the corner in disgust.

We're on our way to the City Cup in 3 weeks. We win that, hello Las Vegas. We don't win, hey, we get more money back than we paid to play. It's Win Win.

I do so love pool!!!! (sorry for the smallness.... someone's camera phone):

Victims Wanted are the Tuesday night Spring Session 8 ball Champions!
In the back (tall dudes): Mike, Cameron (holding the 8 ball)
Left to right: Gene, yours truly, Shawn, Steven the Stain, Mario

Awesome!

Congrats. Very cool.

Sadly, we didn't fare so well in our championship match last evening, losing 2 to 3. The good news is we were already qualified for states, so maybe both our teams will win in the qualifiers and be Vegas-bound!

Again, way cool, especially beating your "friend".... :p

Umm, your not shy anymore as the thread starter states. However you take up less cyber space..

Good luck and get em for the city title.

Rod

If I could change the title of this thread, it would be "Skiergirl55's Only Thread". Perhaps Mr. Wilson will make that change? :)

Well good for you!!!!!!! Glad you dusted his a$$. I love to take down 6's. Ain't it a real good feeling. I hope you are feeling better. I too have had a great start to this session. I'm 3 for 4 and playing solid. I'm looking to leave last session behind. I hope you make it to Vegas. Best of luck.

Stoked !!!

HMMmmmm . . . .
suddenly you're "stoked" at an APA match . . .
remember me telling you that higher-level APA play would give you a different feeling than weekly matches ?;)
Wait to you feel the elation ( and pressure ) of Cities !

Maybe you'll reconsider staying in the APA , and try their singles competition . That's DEFINITELY more of a rush than weekly play , plus , you'll be playing against players who feel they are "the best" within their given handicap ( who's the best s/l3 ? Are you ? One way to find out !! )

Good Luck in Cities , hope ya make it to Vegas !

I've been practicing almost every night lately. I feel good, I'm shooting fairly well (for me).

I got talked into doing 2 APA leagues this summer. Monday and Tuesday nights. Teams need sl/3's. And my teammates think they need me. Sigh.

Bwahahahahaha.... you've fallen into our clutches.... :D

I kid. Tho I'm not surprised. I'm glad you've found a way to enjoy it, despite your initial misgivings.

It's certainly not surprising that your teammates want you back. SL3's that "get it" and want to play (and want to improve, thus showing that "get it" mentality) are indeed highly valued. And short in supply.

I wish you continued success. Hopefully we'll all get through the qualifiers and we can talk about it in person over drinks in Las Vegas! Good luck!

I also bet that you won't be an SL3 at the end of this session. And that's cool, too...

There is always more to the story than you know.

I got hoodwinked into this. My SO (significant other) signed me up without my approval. I still do not enjoy it, and would rather not play APA, but in relationships, you have sacrifices to make.

How can you say you are stoked for the playoffs in one post and then a few posts later say that you don't enjoy playing in the APA and would rather not play.

Sounds like you were enjoying it and still are, if we win in the city cup we go to vegas, woo hoo and if we don't we get more money than we put in.

Come on, you don't have to post things you don't really believe just because you think that some of the negative people on here won't respect you anymore.

I am glad that you are enjoying yourself and wish you good luck at your City Cups. I am glad for anyone that is doing something they enjoy no matter what league they play in.

I enjoy Pool for itself. I enjoy Competition. I can enjoy the pool and the competition of playoffs without having to sing praises to the APA.

I'm sorry that you cannot differentiate between pool and APA, but I could really give an aerial intercourse in a reciprocating pastry for the APA format. It's just not what I'd RATHER play.

I don't like the dentist all that much either, but I see him twice a year. And I play APA for my SO.:p

No one is asking you to sing the praises of the APA or any other league but i can recognize someone who is full of it.

There are alot of people out there who shoot in the APA and really dont find it to their liking. I do it because a couple buddies of mine got a team together and wanted to shoot. I dont particularly care for the APA, but I still shoot in it with my friends and probably will do so for a while.

If she doesnt prefer it, it doesnt mean she cant have fun doing it. And, its a chance for her and her SO to spend some time together doing something enjoyable for both of them.

Honestly, I may be totally wrong here.....it seemed like you were making a feeble attempt at calling her out. Telling her she is contradicting herself then telling her she is 'full of it' for no reason whatsoever. But, like I said, it just SEEMED like that.

Let her do her thing.

She does have the best thread on this whole forum IMO.

Keep it up!!!

BrokeStroke, you're on the money. Twitty is trying to egg me on. I played for a post, but got bored, so I'm done responding to that person. Where's that ignore button?
