Shy but wants to play

A good lesson indeed! Had he not had superior cue ball control, things might have been different. He planted the cue ball hooked near the 8....the first time, the CB went to at least 3 rails....and dies without hitting anything (dead rails?). Also, my lack of skill.

Second time, same scenario.... I was no longer playing. I'm impatient. :grin-square:

I thought, on a foul on the break where you don't hit the rack, the opponent can take the break but not "ball in hand". Maybe APA rules are different, or the rule is not what I think it is.

This is BCA 9 ball.....not APA.

It's too bad that this game doesn't have one standardized set of rules for league play....hang the BCA, APA, TAP, APL and other leagues that tweak all the rules to fit different skill levels.

Maybe there should be one way to shoot pool (BCA, I prefer), but if you're a novice, join something called Novice BCA. Intermediate can be another category. End the weirdness.

hahahahahahah........DREAM ON!

Last night's APA 8 ball league:

Played a 3, I'm still a 4. He needs 2, I need 3 games to win. No challenge, got all 3 games in a row. How much you wanna bet tonight I'll play a 3 and lose?

I played a 5, and lost! Ahr! I only got one game. He had just come down from a 6 over the last couple of weeks so it was lopsided. I got thrown first. Darn.

Hi to Rod, if you're reading this. It was good to chat with you. Here's where to go to play free pool (from what I know):

Sundays, 6pm - 2 am, Bolo's in the valley. (4) 8 foot Valleys.

Mon-Friday, 2 -5 pm, Annie Fannie's....buy food or beer, get free pool. 9 tables, mostly 7 footers, assorted.

Monday night (yikes, or Tuesday, hell...I can't remember, I'm old), Far West Billiards, women shoot free, 8 and 9 foot tables, 6 of them. Grab a female and shoot free all day/night.

Sunday, PJ's Pub on Monroe, never been there, they say there's a 9 foot.

Mondays, lunch hour (ask about hours), Season Ticket near Riverfront, buy some food and shoot free, 7 foots, not sure how many, at least 4.

That's all I can think of for now. I'm tired. Catch you later!

Skier I just logged in on this thread. You're doing well. I went 1-1 this week. Won at 9 and lost at 8.

Instead of scattering the balls I would have just jackhammered the rack. Give them balls a good ride. I'm a mechanic by trade. I've got some serious mitts. I'd really slam them puppies. Besides feels so good just letting the dogs out once in a while. It would have made you feel better.

Hope the week gets better for ya.

It ain't startin out so hot. :)

I was having a good time in the park at my grandson's 5th birthday party. Holy crap...look at the time! I raced outta there to go shoot pool (Sunday's BCA 9 ball).

I get there at 4:45, we start at 5. The other team has 2 members there.....my team is not there at all. WTF. I play a couple of practice games and my 2 teammates come in. One is missing, so we have to rotate.

The other team informs us that one of their members has to work until 6, so he won't be there till 6:30. Since the roster is already made, and it's 5:10, I have to sit and wait for my turn to come up to shoot. The other 2 team members shoot twice, and I'm still sitting there. I finally get my first game a little after 6 pm.

When I said that I could have stayed another hour at my party, someone said, "Well, work is different than partying." Yer damn right! You can work any day, but how often do you turn 5 Years Old?????

I am of the opinion that if you are going to be an hour and a half late to your league, then concessions should be made. We had to give up 2 games off the top when one of our members is working out of state and unable to make it. When you're that late, Forfeit every game of yours that comes up and you aren't there. It's unfair to the people who DO bust ass, leave parties early or otherwise rearrange their schedules....and show up on time.

Maybe I'm nuts, but I really think league play is just not my thing. I'm tired of the rudeness.

I did okay tonight. I won 3 games. I consider that fair against the caliber of shooters we had.

We have a bye tomorrow, but shoot on Tuesday. We're off all next week. Joy.

Yea I agree. If the rules state, "Start at X:XX O'clock" and their player is not there then they forfit. Simple as that. I make it there on time. If not I call ahead. It's only common curtisy.

I'm with you, Mark. Try this crap in a tournament and see how far you fly.

Tonight I played a 3...I'm still a 4. I needed 3 games to his 2. He won the first when I scratched on the 8 (shuckidarns). I won the next 3 in a row to make up for it.;)

We played at the Bronco again and it was so hot in there, it smelled like a BARNYARD. :oink: You know that smell....the musty, damp, dusty from chicken scat odor that clogs up your sinuses, makes your eyes water and leaves you wishing for a stiff breeze?

Ahr (pirate sound)....maybe it was wafting up from my Teva sandals. I've noticed that the alloy of the rubber and skin makes your feet smell like exotic cheese. Ewww :barf:

No league all week, but it's practice time! Everyone have a good holiday weekend. See you in a couple of weeks. W00t!

while it would be nice if everyone was always there on time , the simple reality is that league is not the most important thing in most peoples lives (and if you let it become that , consider some serious introspection , or perhaps therapy . . .) and occasionally , life happens. Thats why there's a national rule dealing with it . Simply , play may begin with only 1 player present (though 2 are preferred , to fufill the scorekeeper obligation) , and play must be continous once begun , meaning that there must be a player available for each individual match within 2 minutes of the end of the prior match . Heck , on time I had my entire team hang out in the bar across the street just to keep our opponents guessing ( & cuz we HATED the incessant hip-hop playing in the match bar!) . We'd just text for the next player when the 8 got marked on the last rack .
sure it might be annoying~ and MAYBE they're doing it for exactly that reason ! Anything to throw ya off your game. . .

and if your Tevas react like that , buy different sandals !!

Ridin, you may have a plan there! Last night, it was really super hot in our venue. The air conditioning wasn't working, and neither was the jukebox (on the same circuit). HOT AND QUIET. Everyone was sweating and miserable.

The owner went out and got fans (yay, some relief), but one of the opposing team members played bad metal on his iPod for everyone. It was so annoying! I always carry my iPod and Skullcandy, so I was getting the Led out. Failing that, I would have been a basket case.

I played a 3 last night. I needed 3 games to his 2. I lost the first one when I missed a tough cut shot on the 8, he didn't. Then won the next 3 games in a row. Our team is in first place.

Last night's BCA 9 ball.......we were short a player, so we all had an extra match. Win or Lose, there is no handicap. Just the way I like it.

Games: W, L, L, L, W, W, L, W, L, L

40%, not bad for a noob. I even got a game from Efren......Efren Hapa, not Reyes. tee hee He's an awesome shooter that has great cue ball control. Stroke of luck that I got the game, he missed a bank on the 9 ball. I made the cut shot to the side pocket.

Tonight's APA is at the Top Hat......from what I understand, a seedy little place that earns the name 'dive'. I have never been there, so tonight should be interesting.

Belated good luck. They only had 2 shooters, so our match tonight was postponed. Good thing too, I've got a raging sinus infection. Went to the Doc's, I got meds, I'll be fine in a day or so.

Mark Shuman

Get well soon, Mark. I feel your pain. When you have a sinus infection, you may as well eat Milk Bones or Cat Chow, it all tastes the same.:frown:

Okay, tonight's episode of As The Cue Strikes is a lesson in Germology. This place is so scummy, even the pool balls tried to leave the table and roll out the door! It was a hot mess, nasty and grody. I have no idea how that place passes a fire inspection, let alone a health inspection! I saw people eating......OMG. I wouldn't eat a candy bar from there if it were still sealed in the wrapper! Most Foul. I need a shower.

I lost to an unrated new player. I made stupid mistakes. There's no excuse. When I'm hot, sweaty and nauseous, I don't shoot well. 3-2 race....I need 3. I scratched on the 8, she won. Next game, I won. Next game, I won again. Then I missed the last striped ball, she made her last 2 easy straight in shots and won, 2-2. C'est la vie.

Tomorrow is in another place I have never been. One thing about the APA...you travel around. I know where NOT to go now!:D

This place was not bad at all, very nice, actually. I still lost my match, though. I just wasn't on my game. My mind is elsewhere.....on this upcoming trip to Hades (Vegas), and the wine, etc. Although, we'll shoot pool in Vegas, and on the way home. :)

No league pool again until the end of the month. JOY!

Okay, back at home, back in more heat. 87 today, but it's a Dry Heat. ha

Last night's 9 ball BCA:
L, W, L, W (9 on the break!), L, L, W, L. 3/8

Tonight's 8 ball APA:

Played an SL4 (same as me). Race to 3, WON WON WON all in a row. :)

I think I'm improving because my Shot Selection is improving. I don't always take the easier shot and it really makes a difference. I'm trying to move around the table with minimal cue ball movement. It's not always possible, but I think it's easier if you can plan your way around the table.

God, I do so LOVE POOL!!

Nice to see that you still that much on fire with pool :)
And your thoughts about *planning your routes* is the right way. Especially 8-ball is a game of experience. And here you have to *plan backwards*. From the 8-ball backwards to the first ball. That s the way you plan a *run-out*.

keep shooting mam^^

lg from overseas,

Ingo

Are you going to vegas for APA? We'll have to play a couple matches for drinks while we're there. I'm a SL5. I'll play the APA race for a beer. :)

Not going this time. I just got back from Vegas. I had a meltdown (literally). With headaches, I don't do well in extreme heat at all. I'll be there for the next one.

Last night I couldn't run out.....but my luck did. I lost all 3 in a row. I had ball in hand and missed a set up, straight in shot that would have let me run the table. :frown:

Some days you're the duck, some days you're the tail feathers.:o
