Wow!!!

Our Legends of One Pocket is the 5th, 6th and 7th of Dec. and we have had it scheduled for more than a year.

Grady,
The original poster said this:

If this is their 5th ANNUAL tournament and they have held it at the same time each year, then it looks as if you scheduled on top of them.

Doug
(or, I may be wrong as usual.......anyway, good luck with your tournament)

Big one pocket tournaments probably will get people to travel long distances. Our little tournament in Grand Island, NE drew a few from Colorado, IA & KS... and this is 9 ball. SC & VA areas will probably have similar travel of 200-400 miles for the event

I don't see how events is SC and VA impact each other.

It's 312 miles between cities, maybe 5-6 hours drive if they're off the Interstate highway.
It would be like New Orleans, LA having a tournament the same weekend as Fort Walton, FL. (imo)

Doug

Your logic is flawed, guys.

What about the players who live about halfway between the two events, like Charlotte or Fayetteville? We're really struggling right now. Two of our $1,000 added tournaments had only 8 players each; so we cut the entry fee in half and drew 24 contestants, which was better but still not enough to break us even.
It just looks like they could pick any other date.

Grady, you know that I wish you well and applaud your previous and present contributions to pool. I wasn't taking sides, but neither you, nor the original poster addressed my post.

What dates were the last four ANNUAL tournaments held in Richmond, VA by Side Pockets ?

BTW, wouldn't you be better served if you and Randi had chosen to live in an area with a larger pool population ? I mean, sheesh.... 8 players and 24 players. Local neighborohood bars get more players than that with little or NO money added on a weekly basis.

Doug

Gentlemen, in addition to the scheduling issue, has anyone addressed the fact this original post is in the wrong section? I'm not the section police :) by any manner, but moderators can you please move this to the tournament announcement section.

OK, I'll answer my own damned question, posted in response to Grady's reply.

By looking up the OP's (RichmondEddie) posting history here http://onepocket.org/forum/search.php?searchid=9358
I have discovered the following:
'05 2nd Annual 1 Pocket Tournament.......Dec.17th-18th
'06 3rd Annual 1 Pocket Tournament....... Dec.16th-17th
'07 4th Annual 1 Pocket Tournament....... Dec.15th-16th
'08 5th Annual 1 Pocket Tournament....... Dec.6th-7th

I can see that it's been held on the same weekend until THIS year and it would/should have been on Dec.13th-14th

Apparently, it was moved up a week and is butting heads with Grady's 1 Pocket Tournament scheduled for the same weekend and scheduled over a year in advance.

Doug
(sumpin don't pass the smell test) imo

*Before 'we' move this thread to a different Forum, let's discuss the decision pros & cons of scheduling conflicting dates a the detriment of other regional rooms.

.

The OP (richmondeddie) just posted this response on www.onepocket.org :

"don't shoot the messenger"

"grady needs to call Calvin 804-353-7921......i've never known calvin to snake anyone. the richmond tournament attracked mostly local talent and D.C. guys like danny green, pooky etc. in the past. grady stopped by a couple of years ago on his way to the derby..........personally i haven't visit the site since june when i retired so was unaware of grady's tournament. calvin ferrell is the contact, i just love the game."

I hope that this is worked out to everyone's satisfaction. If Calvin could re-schedule for the following weekend of Dec. 13th-14th and then show up at Grady's with some of his players, perhaps Grady and some of his players could reciprocate the following weekend and both would have a profitable event.

Doug

Thanks, Doug

I called him and told him about your suggestion. He said he couldn't reschedule. When I suggested nicely that next time he research better so as to avoid this type of thing, he said he was limited because he didn't have a computer.
We, as a family business, are sick to our collective stomachs with this stuff. I'm scared to try to have anything next year. Well, thanks for trying, my friend.

Wow..I read this thread and was hoping that it was going to be worked out in the end. Im sorry Graddy that it runs into your tournament. I may even go to side pocket and say something about it, maybe it will help. However it does raise a really neat issue that Azbilliards could really pave the way in helping. What if az had a place to showcase a interactive yearly calendar that coudl be updated by the mods when infor was sent to them. That way we could help cut out the overlap of tournaments the best we could..especailly if they were region specific. It would be a cool concept. Hell I should just develop the damn thing myself, put some of those old computer science degree skills to work. ....just a thought

This is all I have to say

I don't know what else to do. Our tournament is in BD, P&B, Inside Pool, AZ and Onepocket.org. I don't understand how anyone in the billiard community wouldn't know of our event. It's too late for us to reschedule so I guess we're just stuck with this unpleasantness.
Not having a computer is a lame excuse. Anybody who can't afford as little as $400 for a computer shouldn't be running pool tournaments.

This has got to be the laziest, lamest excuse I've seen in awhile. Let's assume he's telling the truth about not having a computer.

Even by giving the benefit of the doubt, the fact of the matter is that the guy knows people who do have a computer. Not to mention the fact that the LIBRARY has computers for public use for FREE.

IMO, the guy was lazy, didn't care, and didn't have the cajones to admit that to Grady on the phone so he opted with the lame "I don't have a computer" story.

Since Grady has a proven track record of running fantastic one pocket tournaments, wasn't lazy and got out and spent time and money promoting his tournament, I'd like to offer the following suggestion for those of you on the fence about where to go?

Go to Grady's. He's done it right in the past, he did it right this time, and he shouldn't have to suffer due to someone else not doing it right.

Grady,

I think that you are an awesome example of how to do things!!! With the amount of leg work and advertising you have done, I believe it will be their loss!

Good Luck with YOUR event!
