I am thinking about purchasing a Sigel Custom Cue and wondered if anyone, who has one, would comment on its hit and feel. Does it feel like a world class cue or not?

Thanks,

Travis McKinney

There is a guy in my nineball league that has one of his cues and he says that it is the best cue that he has ever played with and he has owned a lot of cues. I used to play with a Sigel production cue and it played better than some of the nicest custom cues that I shot with. You cant go wrong with his cues from what I hear. He uses them himself and he just won the senior open at Mizeraks.

I could loan Sigel my home depot mop handle and he would still win. I have heard nothing but fine things about his cues also, expensive, but beautiful to admire. :D

Hi Don,

Mike told me he started with Danny Janes and the Bill Stroud. He learned lots from Leonard Bludworth. There were lots of others along the way. He is still learning.

Mikes cues hit great. Each of the locals who bought one, are thrilled. Mike has Shannon Daulton playing with his cue. I also understand that Jose Parica may join him. He used one at the DCC. Mikes cues look great. I don't know about long term but the build quality is there right now.

I have not tried one of his customs. I think what bothers me about even considering owning one is:

- There are a lot of new, unplayed Mike Sigel cues from 1996, 1997, etc. that are just now being dumped for around $1000 on E-Bay. He was trying to get $3,000 for them. Were these all unsold cues?

- There is not one sharp point on his cues. Most collectors I know won't own cues with rounded inlays.

- His cues are way overpriced considering he is a big name player not a big name cue-maker.

If I saw one I liked, I might pick one up for $800 or $1000, but I would be afraid to put more into it. There's one on E-Bay right now by a reputable seller that's pretty cool looking. That one could probably be picked up for $1,000 or a little more. I know the seller - he's a good guy.

Thanks a lot guys. This really helps me out in my decision making. I personally feel that many of his cues are BEAUTIFUL. I haven't seen any cuemakers with his style. As long as they hit like a champion, I'm considering them.

Thanks again everyone!

Although they are really good cues, I agree that some of the prices are ridiculously high. IMHO I think that it is partly because of his fame. He charges top dollar for his cues. He learned a lot from a numerous cue makers. He seems to favor ebony and ivory. All the cues that I have seen from him are ebony and ivory cues. I emailed him to get a quote and he said the a plain jane cue starts at 600 and if I what some ivory like the joint and butt cap etc etc it would range from 700 and up with one shaft!!! Thats pretty steep but I guess that all cue makers are just in their pricing

With the proliferation of CNC mills and cue makers out the ying-yang, reality is setting in for many cue-makers. I gaze into my crystal ball and see... prices going slightly lower then stabilizing.

There are a handful of makers still commanding the really big bucks but a few years ago there was a bucketful of them. The best will still survive and thrive in the future. The trick is, as with any business, to build a strong, dedicated following by earning your customers respect.

you've been doing your homework. these are issues that should be addressed if you're spending considerable cash for a cue.

I sure do, I'll be spending 3 days with him in his factory building me some new stuff for my return to the world tour next week, his name is Bob Meucci.

Buddah,

You mean Kornerpocket? His whole cue collection? Are you sure?

Buddah,

Why is he getting rid of them all?

Agreed. I like collecting but I also want the item to hold it's value. Just look what's happening to Dale Perry cues. I decided to sell one of mine because his prices are just getting cheaper and cheaper. I feel for the people who paid $2,000 for a DP - they might not get $600 for them right now. Who wants to take that kind of loss? There are lots of other examples like that out there.

I talked to him yesterday, cuz I was interested in the Viattorre that he had on there (damn browser crashed on my bid) and he said that he is gonna keep about 7-10 of them and unload the rest. He said it was getting out of control. He just dropped 8k on a Zamboti that he is prolly gonna keep, but he made it sound like that was gonna be his last purchase.

He's prolly selling his cues so he can buy other cues. :D
Promising not to buy any more cues is an easy promise to break.

He is selling his cues like gang busters on ebay, every day there is a new one it seems. I am not a collector, no bank or stomach for that, I am just a player.

Ha Ha! He is addicted like I am. He will sell and trade, then he will buy some more. I know him and I also know that he wants to keep the truly one of a kind, high end collectibles. He's just trimming down to the hardcore stuff.

I just read the post on Mike and how he learned cuemaking.

First, Mike was only on staff with Bob Meucci. Bob did not teach him how to build cues.

Mike may of talked with Stroud, but Stroud never taught him cuemaking.

Mike did learn how to do very little inlay work with Dan Janes of Joss Cues, Ltd., and cut butts and shafts.

Mike came to me about 10 years ago, and I taught him how to build cues, and sold him all of his cuemaking equipment. Lathes, a four/head CNC parts and pocket machine, a four headed CNC saw/lathe, shaft and butt sanders , everything needed for a shop. To many things to name. I personally delivered his machinery to his first shop that was in his garage, in his first home in Orlando...

He was taught how to draw CAD drawings at my Houston shop, along with how to do everything building cues.

Some will take claim for his learning, but Dan Janes and I were the guys who did the most for Mike.

Mike builds a very nice product.
