I went this weekend to SBE with my girlfriend, overall it was amazing to meet so many people in the pool world in one place. Between meeting the pros and people from this board I had not met before it really was great.
I brought a box of cue balls for signatures of poll pros and pool related famous people. My girlfriend has problems with her knees so I had to push her around in a wheelchair. That did not stop her from asking for and attaining enough signatures to force me to buy a second box of cue balls. I had wanted to get one signed by Loree Jon who I knew would be at the meucci booth for the event. So I broke away from my girlfriend during one of the pro events and went to ask her for one. She refused to sign it as she was selling her own signed balls for $20 each. Instead she offered a picture of her that makes her look a lot younger and prettier then she is in person that she would sign for free. She said she has earned the right to sell it instead she would sign anything other then cue balls. She gave me the story that her agent told her not to sign cue balls as some people will sell them aftermarket on places like ebay if she did. It is her choice if she wants to be viewed in that light. I took the picture and when I was going back to the pro arena I could not help but to think about all the times I read on her that there is not a lot of money to be made in pool as a profession yet she has an Agent? She must be making a killing on lessons. Maybe it is just her family money as they used to own a pool hall in hillside NJ and a pool table store in greenbrook or middlesex NJ a few years back. All I know is I will put the cue balls I have had signed up on display in my pool room and I have no intentions of purchasing anyone's signature on a ball while they are alive anyhow. I have only heard of now three people in the industry that would charge for that. I have seen pool halls that offer signed balls for sale for $20 as well and always thought that was for people that did not want to take the time or pay the money to go watch the pros or meet them in person. Like a tourist trap.
