Hey I just signed up for the preliminary round for the us amateur championship.

The preliminary tournament starts in september. Has anyone ever had experience in the us amateur championship?

What was it like and what should I expect?

How good are the players that do ok in the preliminary rounds and how good are the players that qualify?

Any tips for preparing other than practice?

Thanks

AF

The other side of it.....my qualifier was in Silver Springs, MD last year (DC suburbs). Well over 100 players...venue had between 25 and 30 tables as I recall. Registration around 1000. I had a first round bye....played my second match at approx. 4:00PM in the afternoon. If your venue is similar, bring a good book (or 2), a cot, or find something good to do with your time between matches. Good luck.

cool thanks guys any information on the level of competition I will be facing? if you had to rate them in a APA skill level what would you rate the bulk as?

As I recall mostly APA 6's and 7's but the players are not required to be an APA player so you may face some that are stronger than an average APA 7.

The biggest competition will be yourself. My advice to you is this (it's free so take it for what it's worth): Don't change anything about your game between now and then, don't get in a rut trying to play defense all the time and don't try to run out when you have better options.. Play your best normal game and keep your confidence high. Finally get a good nights sleep the night before and eat a good breakfast.

Good Luck.

thanks man i feel my main problem right now is my mental game which i am going to work on. As far as my game goes I am not really going to change anything just working on ball control and accuracy especially when using left and right english.

thanks again
