i just had new electric blue simonis 860 installed back in early february. now i play 2-4 hours a day, wish i could play more.

so here's the question: there are several very, very small "spots" where it looks like the cloth is, for lack of a better term, "loose" or "unraveling", i dunno, i am sure you guys know what i mean. sort of like a little bump i guess.

is this normal for 860?
am i doing something wrong? sometimes i brush the table, sometimes i take a towel and wipe it off.

i believe you didn't stretch it enough, when you installed it.

Knicks.........

Does it look like this?

yep, thats what it looks like.

and its not in the area i break from.
however, its on that end of the table - the area where you place the cue ball for the break that is. but not right where you break from.

Weird. Seems like a hole/unraveled cloth after some rigorous masse practice. Or a result of an indoor meteorite shower :p

Great picture and sample of imperfections. When I had 860, I also had a spot like the one in the lower right hand corner. I've not had anything like that happen with the Championship cloth.

I and 2 of my friends have 860, none of us has anything like that on our tables (and none at the local pool hall). Protege, you could be right, the gods are mad at you (was it something you did in this lifetime or a previous one - I would not take up skydiving if I were you).

Simonis knicks

In speaking with Simonis' representative...I would think that the reason you are getting those knicks in the cloth are either: large coins being flipped (remember that the coin comes down pretty hard on the cloth and if it hits just right it compromises the thread right against the slate...of course it will snap a thread...but the weave prevents the rip from spreading.) or b) someone with rings or c) (most likely) someone stroking who has a tip that is almost worn out and the ferrule hits the cloth...a drag shot. Good luck. The cloth will still play properly even with the knicks...it's a visual thing.

Does this mean the cloth may have been nicked during one of the human sacrifices necessary to appease the Pool Gods??? (Protege has been fairly quiet recently, maybe the sacrifice idea wasn't so bad - it beats practicing).

Is it possible the cloth was damaged by flying schrapnel from one of your tantrums? Just a thought.

Could it have been a jump shot gone bad?? i know the pool hall I play out of has alot of these nicks/holes on them, most of the players say it's from people driving there jump cues into the table, others say its the coins....If you slow roll a ball over one of these little holes it will deflect it in another direction.

no coins have been flipped on this table.
no jump shots have occurred in the area where these "nicks" in the cloth are showing up.
nobody with long nails has played on it.
none of the cues would have caused it either.

could brushing the simonis 860 cause this?

Is it possible that some dirt, a piece of slate, or some other tiny foreign object was under the felt when it got installed? The only way to get it out is to work it out through the felt, thus leaving small puncture holes on your table. I have a small bump in my felt and I don't know what it is. It wasn't there before the new felt. Just a thought.

Maybe miscueing while trying a big draw shot caused those. I have also seen my friend make those holes when he was trying to masse balls and whacked the felt.
