Simple question

For those of you who line up your cue in the center of your chin-How do you tell exactly where your cue is pointed? I mean you can't look at the cue and the object ball at the same time. So how do you tell if your cue is aligned correctly?

I'm right handed. So I've been trying to change my stance so my right eye is over the cue for the last month or so but found it very hard to see the shots. I only start seeing the shots after about 20-30 minutes of practice alone. Then I start shooting lights out. It definitely hasn't become second nature yet.

Now when I switch back to center chin I miss everytime a little to the left. So should I go back to center chin or keep trying to make the switch to eye over cue? My stroke is definitely a lot better with my right eye over the cue. Whatever I do I need to stick with it cause this has really thrown my game off.

I think you answered your own question perfectly. Whatever you do, you need to stick with it and practice practice practice. I have read on the forums here that players suggest once you find your dominate eye, try to adjust your cue that way and your game should get stronger. If you have been playing center chin for a long time, old habits are hard to let go, especially if you played well and now back against a learning curve of sorts.

I am right handed and play center chin. My right eye is dominate but ever so slightly so it doesnt matter much. If I am off a lil to the left or right in hitting balls, I will pull back to center ball english until I am comfortable playing english again on shots.

I am lucky enough to have known my dominant eye long before I started shooting pool, from back when i used to shoot archery, and now I can not adjust at all to shooting center chin.

man thats a tough problem.......how low do you get over your cue. Back when i was keeping a log and trying to troubleshoot my game, I found when i would get really low over the cue, like my chin about touching it.......my game would go all to hell.......i was crowding my arm and couldnt stroke thru the ball, all kinds of things would go wrong......but for some reason my natural instinct was to get that low. Then I got my stance right.......a big part of that was my initial setup.....basically just imagine the cue moving back and forth in a straight line, in line with your shot.....but no body there. Ok then you have to move into the shot so your body conforms to the cues movement.........which for me meant lining up with my right foot (right handed)to the inside of the cueball and the path it needs to follow, then pivot slightly and place my left foot down and up. The last step was for me to stay up a little over the shot......my chin now maybe 6 or 8 inches over the cue, not touching it. THis was actually alot more comfortable for me, once i learned to trust it and not try to contort down so low. Im wondering if when you go to shooting under your right eye if you arent actually changing your stance and dont realise it.

Do like Colin Colenso does. Just point it in the general direction that you're shooting. Sometimes you'll make a ball. Sometimes you won't.

Yeah actually I am a little bit left eye dominant. Most of those eye dominance tests point to my left eye but not all. I don't think it's an option to put my left eye over the cue. My stance would be all messed up.
