It's amazing that the first pro 147 was also televised (Steve Davis, 1983). It's too bad that the Youtube video leaves out the middle bits, which are more interesting than the ends, often.

John Spencer, who I consider the 'father of modern snooker', got robbed
for this distinction.
He was playing in a televised tournament and they were changing the
tapes when he had his.....I think it was late 70's.

I thought the first televised 147 was Cliff Thorburn during a worlds event..maybe 1983?
 
A bit surprising that Willie "Mr Maximum" Thorne never made one in competitive play (however that is defined)
