Sputnik, we all need friends.

We all have our own thoughts. As far as teaching, that's fine, but not in public. It's my opinion.

If we continue to talk about the bad side of this , we are loosing ground. It's tough getting anyone to sponser a pool player or tournament.

Think about this, say GM, was interested, along with one of the big boys from Tv, [abc,nbc, fox, cbc, or whoever]and they put their researchers to work on it, and they went to any tournament and heard all kinds of things, such as cussing, dumping and whatever.

Do you think they would hang around and sponser us?

I have to defend Blud on this one! He did say "If the shoe fits, wear it" and he never mentioned any names! I would have to take an educated guess and believe that since the two of you took offense to Blud's comments, then you are part of those committing the offense. "If the shoe fits, wear it!"
I agree with what people are saying...it's not in a tournament, just amongst friends! That's great, but who is watching you, who do your friends do it to or with. Remember...someone is always watching you! Either looking for the "easy mark", or looking for someone to help their game. No matter what you do, you are being watched!

I, had an, X, friend tell a story about playing one pocket. He says, he can rack them and no one can break balls out of the stack. walked around bragging about it. Didn't get any action at , rightfully so.

Pure scum bags, these type of people.

I wonder if all these guys are honorable in raising and teaching there children. Or do they teach them how to steal?

I'm fairly new to serious pool, and so I had no idea people did these kind of things. I've had some loose racks, but never considered anything more nefarious--though I wouldn't put it past some of the people in our pool league. I, for one, believe that education is the tool that betters any environment.
 
Yeah. There is no such thing as good security through obscurity.

Yes, for every hack, trick, and loophole you point out, there are 10 people who will try to use it. But there are 100 who now know about it and won't fall for it.

Aside from that, though, I don't think pool has a bad name at all. And any time I have heard something bad from an 'outsider' it hasn't been about tricks and sharking techniques, or about the game at all, but about poolhalls themselves. Dark, smokey, full of people mixing competitive natures with booze... but the game itself? Never.
 
It is amazing..........Mr Blutterworth has found yet another way to distance himself from more people. The things the old hustlers use to do is part of pool, it may not be the best thing. Some of the old things are funny, some of the old stories Jr Goff use to tell are great. How could this thread offend you too? Mr Bwud? You act like your above everybody and everything...........when you were probably the kid kid that could play a lick..........so you were the one askin for all the weight. And you were probably a mark of some of these huslters.......thats why it offends you eh?

i'll tell you what zimscrack..i don't know who you think you are..but you took it to another level and dead out accused me and hondo of doing things like this...so this is obviously personal and since it is i'll get a little personal back...first of all i've never cheated in any kind of way at anything...and you're one to be talking...you're the worst kind ...everytime someone asks about a cue on here you say you love that cue..no matter what kind or the quality you just say this to try and make a sale...i've seen you do this on several occasions...and you want to question my character?i'm always honest in my posts whether you like my opinion or not i'm honest about what i think...i'm not some crumby salesman trying to take advantage of newcomers to the poolworld..people like you are a dime a dozen buddy

poor. Now I have a little more couth. Besides,

Not a problem Hondo! And Railbird25- It obvious that Bluds comments hit you on the spot, otherwise you wouldn't be getting so defensive. The cues that I've played (or currently play) with are all great cues. The cues that I've never played with, I don't comment about, and that is the truth! Some of the cues I play with I DON'T SELL! When I make a comment about a cue, I don't get to in depth unless I know that about that cue. I just state that the one that I play with is great, no complaints from me and yes, I love my cues, that's why I still have them and play with them. I would recommend any cue that I play with. ALL cues feel, hit, play, look and even are made differently...so to the newcomers of the cueing sport...try different cues until you find one that works for you. However, you can't tell after 2 shots with a cue if it's going to work for you. Cues are like cars, there each different and it's takes some miles to get comfortable.
ohh, and I never accused you, simply reiterated "if the shoe fits, wear it!" and apparently your foot is one size fits all!

once again you put that shoe on my foot...i was taking up for everyone who had posted an this subject went blud went off the deep end...and then you singled me and hondo out...i've said about enough on this subject except if you keep on putting my name where it doesn't belong then i know where my shoe can fit

It's hard to believe even the sorriest scum would think of glueing someone's cue together or think that it's funny. That's a real good way to get a pool cue up side the head.
As far as the other stuff goes if it's with friends that's one thing but doing it to strangers can be dangerous too.
 
Folks, I have defended pool for years. I still do it when it comes up.

Pool and Billiards is the way i make my living and provide for my family. So, yes, it's upsetting when i read and hear all the crap about pool, in public. All sports have a bad side. But pool seems to never rid it's self of any of it.

EXAMPLE!

several years ago, we were having a big tournament in the south, the TV report came and did several interviews. On the 6:00 news, the anchor, said, watch out for your money the husstlers are in town. Our attendance dropped to about 50 from over 350 within two days. Hell, we were just playing each other, trying to make ends meets.

I never have and never will hustle anyone. To me it's "stealing".. I was not rich either, but never hustled anyone to get by. Didn't need to.

I never took the easy way out. i just worked real hard and have done pretty fair without the hassel of the hussle.

If your playing a player who can play, that's differant, Match up and bet high. I don't think that's a hussle. Both folks knowing what's going on.

However, go out and look for an easy mark, or if you trap a guy who can't play as well as you and you knew it, from the start, that is also differant. Then i consider it stealing.....


Personal attacts, why, no need for it. We all have our opinions about any subjects.

I do my best to explain my points of view. Some may agree, and some may disagree. That's fine. But to personally attack someone for stating his or her opinion, is bull crap.

I don't believe in attacking anyone on this forum.
I just stated what is happening with pools image. That's all. It's my opinion.

i totally agree with you about pool being tarnished...evryone thinks that we are all hustlers and lowlifes in a dark old dungeon of pool hall...unless you are a player then you don't know any different...it's just like believing in santa claus...until you were told different you didn't know...i think that is a little deeper than pulling a prank on your friend which was not what this thread was about to start with...anyway i have nothing against you personally blud as a matter of fact i play with one of your cues and it's a damn fine one...i got out of line when i was accused of doing these things and i never said you accused me...but if you don't defend yourself nobody else will...i agree that these things are bad for pool and they calling getting an edge when it is no more than just plain cheating..i know how to stonewall people with the rack but i choose not to do that...i know every shark tactic you can think of because i've been on the road with good players pretty much all my life and i don't use any shark moves because that doesn't make me or any one else better...it just makes you look like an ass an pretty much knocks your action in the future because no one wants to play a jerk...i was just letting you know that i think for the most part everyone was joking...i'm sure some weren't but they know who they are and that's good enough for me...anyway sorry about the mix up and this thread is over as far as i'm concerned

For your information, sir, I was poor also. My dad worked very hard and eventually made good money. None of the money was passed down to me. That's the way I wanted it.

I have seen and heard all the bull crap for years. It would be nice to do more business in the future than in the past, that's all.

I was raised in a home that cost $4,000.00 back in 1946. I was born at home in 1940, and home was my dad's office at his shipyard.

No I didn't come from wealth.

What Janice and I have, we got on our own, by working hard and applying ourselves.

I see nothing wrong with defending our livelyhood.

By the way, what do you do for a living?

How would you like it if at every turn, you have someone, running you down for how you make a living....or making smart ass remarks to you and calling you a hussler........

Only in the last few years, those of us in the billiard business were able to go to the bank and borrow money to operate on or buy equipment.

Years past the banks would not even consider a loan for anyone involved in pool or billiards, because of it's image.


The reason for this was the bad reputation pool had for bagage.

That's why I defend our industry.


By the way, I vote a split ticket...that's my rights...

A year ago when everybody was ragging you

characters acted & if you wanted to continue
to have free advertizing you needed to
chill & laugh them off because the more you

I happen to like FL/ DannyD but you're a lot

You love compliments but the minute somebody

I split my ticket too & it's none of your busines
what I do for a living. I make an honest
living & I'm fairly literate & I WILL continue
to express my opinion.
If it happens to contradict your world vision
well, c'est la vie.
