Silly APA thought I should be raised to a SL6

I keep stats on myself

Over the past 20 matches I have won 53% of my matches and averaged about 4 innings per game won. I'm not very consistant, I've had some really good matches, and some horrible "choke" matches.

9 of my best 10 are wins with about 3 innings per game won.

I understand how their math works, and don't have a problem accepting it; I just really, genuinely, feel like I didn't earn or deserve the higher rating. :(

Oh well, gives me an excuse to get back to the practice table. :)

-Jon (second guesses the fun of this whole APA thing)

If

your stats are true, and the same as the APA's, you should not be a SL6.

I would put you at between a 5.4 to 5.6 (I always use decimal places, big difference between a 5.2 and a 5.9)

I'm new to APA, playing on a masters team, how does the rank system work?

Reading this I can't figure out if your happy with the raise or not. You did seem to "earn" the raise. The formula doesnt count all the matches but rather your top ones. You did not mention number of safes for the matches. That will make a difference.

What do you feel a 6 should be shooting to be rated a 6? Sounds like you probably averaged less than 3 innings for you top matches.

What do you think a 7 should average? I think it has to be somewhere like 2.0 or less. Your within the next gap I would think.

IMO the SL6 spot is one of the weirdest spots. Many of them (most) are SL5s that dont know how to play the game correctly and just have low innings. Others have SL5 skills but have the grit and knowledge needed to know how to win. They do the little things to win matches.

Take it in stride and go with it. Its really only 1 game difference. If your a little on the low side then it will make you bear down and figure out what changes you need to make.

I'm just not real excited about being raised after a session of lazy, sloppy play where I barely won half of my matches. Mostly I just piddled around on the table until someone left me with an easy out (that and got drunk).

Maybe this is for the better and I'll clean up my act in order to bring more focus/concentration to the table.

This could be a very healthy challenge to embrace

or it could be more work than I'm willing to do (or rather, more work than the girlfriend is willing to LET me do)

It's up to me I guess, but I would have been much, much happier if I was raised due to a few strong wins.

Remember a few things...

1- you are there to have fun. Dont place so much pressure on yourself to play perfect. No one plays perfect. Do what you need to do to win and have fun.

2- One APA night and League match doesnt define you as a player nor will it make you a player. Its only a small part of this bastard hobby we have come to love/hate.

3- In bar table eight ball especially in leagues and non PRo levels it doesnt take much to get a few innings. Balls can lay weird and the skill or lack of it makes leaves and changes every inning very unpredictable.

Am I the only one who found this thread's title misleading?

I thought he was talking about running a six pack.

People move up and down skill levels who participate in handicap leagues.

Some are overrated, some underrated, some are ranked appropriately. Just a fact of life.
