I caught a major roll today when I showed up to Amsterdam Billiard Club in search of a straight pool game and ran into Craig Riley, known in these AZB parts as TheOne.
Obviously, he is in town to play in the upcoming World Straight Pool Championships later this week. As a fundamentally hospitable guy, I offered him a game.
We got three races to 100 in.
In the first one, SJM ran a 55 on the way to victory, but this, it turned out wasn't a good idea. It just got TheOne all fired up.
In the second race, TheOne ran the first 36 and after a 9 by SJM, he ran another 28 for an insurmountable 64-9 lead. SJM tried to fight the good fight, but was truly overmatched.
In the third race, SJM hit what seemed a superb opening break. The cue was parked on the back rail and only one ball was loose. TheOne fired it in like it was a hanger, broke the pack and ran 34. Ouch! Once again, TheOne scored a solid victory.
Most importantly, it was nice to see my friend again and we enjoyed the game. Well played, my firend.
