Skeletons in our closet

Rude Dog

<---Dumb and Dumber
There has been so much talk recently about Kevin Trudeau and his past convictions and federal time and scams, I was just wondering what some on here would think if their own skeletons in the closet were brought out? When I first started posting here in this forum, which is the first billiard forum I ever posted in, the reason I did was because I saw a thread about Rodney Morris, who is a good friend of mine. I saw where it was going, questions about his federal time, and what were the reasons for it. I set the record straight, with his permission, because I knew for a fact what happened because I was involved. Anyway, IF, (note the big IF) everyone on here had the misfortune of their past put into a forum such as this one, how would it make you feel? We walk the streets, side by side, with the likes of murderers, child-molesters, rapists, bank-robbers, kidnappers, drug dealers, but is there a sign on their backs telling us that they are one or more of these types of people? No, there isn't. So why is it okay to talk about someone in a billiard forum, about their past? Before you answer that question, ask yourself, "Can I FIT in my closet?"
I don't have a problem talking about my past and if anyone ever has a question that they would like to ask me about it, feel free to do so. Of course this isn't an invite to my life story, because that's my business, just like yours is yours. But please keep this in mind, if I tell you something, that's between you and I. If I want to share it with everyone, I'll put it in the forum myself. I respect others the way I feel I should be respected. I shouldn't have to say, " Don't tell anyone else this ", but sometimes we all have to say that.
Anyway, lets get back to the skeletons in the closet. Would anyone like to share with the rest of us about your past? Or, would you like to keep it to yourself because you're ashamed of it? Or because it's not our business? The risk of maybe going to jail? Or worse? Think about that before you pass judgment on other's next time.
Peace, and have a good day, John.

Hey John,

I am just curious...what did Rodney do? I have recently become a fan of his and just curious. I hear murmurs about his run in with the law or whatever...but I am honestly curious as to what happened. I have no clue. I personally feel more comfortable with just a short PM from you explaining to whatever detail what went on. I am not looking for excuses...just a brief general what happened. He seems like a nice guy now and I am not going to hold his past against him in any way shape or form...I am genuinely curious.

And as far as myself...it would take a BIG damn closet to hold my skeletons...eventhough I do fit easily in most overhead plane bins...*grin*

Shorty

Nice post, Rude Dog! I try not to judge anyone by what happened in their past, although it's said that the past is what shapes up the future. But, the past can also fix what happens in the future because of learned experiences, if that makes any sense.

If I laid out all of the skeletons in my closests (that's right, I pluralized closet as I keep running out of space!), there would be a lot of :o and  and we can't forget  from me and others!

Well, John...I understand where you're coming from with regards to Rodney and his past (and yours if there was that sort of involvement). You have your right to privacy as does Rodney. Neither of you are under any obligation to talk to anyone about those things.

Having said that, criminal backgrounds are a matter of public record. If you have felony convictions, you lose a lot of your rights. People should think about that before they commit felonies. You lose the right to vote, possess firearms, hold public office, hold federal jobs...it follows you around for the rest of your life (unless you can have the record expunged). People are always going to know something about you that you're not proud of. That's a part of it...just as the jail time, probation/parole and fines are part of it.

Does that mean that I think people are not entitled to a second chance? Absolutely not...people do deserve second chances. And often they make good on it on the second chance. That does not necessarily mean that the previous criminal record should be forgotten.

Kevin Trudeau is a different story. He puts himself in the public spotlight. His criminal record includes ripping thousands of people off for money...millions of dollars all told. So, should he be trusted? If he says "Trust me, I won't do it again." we're supposed to just believe that and trust him? I don't think so. That's what criminal records are for...so people can know that a person has a propensity for criminal behavior. Once a liar and con artist.....

Kevin Trudeau created his own situation. His reputation is his own doing. I don't think he's ever been trustworthy, nor will he ever be.

I don't have a criminal record...I dunno, maybe if I did I would feel differently about it? :)

I assume Rodney's record has nothing to do with his playing professional pool, therefore is irrelevant. Kevin Trudeau's criminal record is not irrelevant...he's expecting to be trusted with large sums of other people's money.

Everything about me is an open book, so all anyone needs to do is ask.

This Kevin guy has proven countless times that he's a liar and a con artist. Now I do hope this new tour takes off, but as I've said before, I won't be surprised if it doesn't. (Can one be hopeful and pessimistic at the same time? lol) I also hope the WPC stops acting like babies and lifts the ban they are threatening their players with, as we should be welcoming new avenues to promoting our sport, not bickering and fighting amongst each other. Everyone wants the same thing: more money and more media attention. This IPT promises both, so why prevent your players from bettering themselves?

Agreed..100%.

I served 7 years in the Boise Idaho state correctional facility. I was arrested and convicted of stealing one of those little bitty miniature pool tables from Target.

Well, IMO Kevin doesn't post here so that is not the same as leaking all of our past deeds. Another is not alot of us are saying that we should be trusted when we are STILL (that is right I said still) doing devious things. I mean come on...the guy said he was going to use pool as a means to advertise his book....you know the one that has the cure for cancer in it.

I am not saying Kevin is or isn't legit...I hope he is and I hope this works...but as far as I am concerned this is not something he did 10 years ago and he has been a saint ever since...he is still doing this stuff. I will be the first to say that we have all made past mistakes....the question is did you learn form those mistakes and change your ways?? That is the deciding factor on how your character is judged.

Rude Dog you can go to hell OH! wait this isn't the flame war thread Sorry. :D Hey Rude Dog you would'nt happen to know Little Dave Gomez would you?

John,

First of all, if people lived as if everything they did, both the good and bad, could be on public display, I wonder if each of us would have better character as a result?

I think you would be shocked to find out how easy it is to bring up the bad on someone. You have few secrets if someone bothers looking. Public information includes most legal records, judgements, criminal proceedings, even such sensitive personal information such as divorce records, paternity suits, settlements, etc.

The state and local governments are now allowing easy access to court records. In some states this is free (or just a few dollars) and only takes a few minutes. You can instantly find out if someone was convicted of a felony - even if it was 30 years ago, or had a speeding ticket.

What I'm saying is without the subject's permission, you can do this now, on your computer, in a few minutes, at almost no expense.

I respect you for being up front about what happened to you. You told your story. I think the best protection is the truth, but that also means being true to yourself, which I believe you are.

I have found people are tremendously generous and forgiving when dealing with the sincere.

Chris

Good post, John. OK I'm going to share a skeleton out of my closet.
When I was young (early teens) we used to go to the town dump with .22 rifles to shoot at rats or anything else up there for target practice. (small town, not a whole hell of a lot to do). There were no homes or people around so it wasn't possible to do harm to any individuals, animals, or personal property.

So one day another friend and myself were up there and saw a huge tire. When I say huge tire, I mean one that came off of a T-Rex tractor. This thing was at least double our height if not more. So we got the thing and started rolling it down the road together as we were on each side to control it. This took a lot of determination, but we did this for well over a half mile to our next destination which happed to be the steps that went up/down to the town swimming pool. During the summers, the swimming pool was the in place and where everyone went to cool off and have a good time.

However, it was nearing dusk so no one was around or to be found. We were on the top side of the steps which numbered 147. Let me tell you, even when you're young, walking UP those things everyday to get to the swiming pool got you to breathing heavily and panting. There were about 12 steps at a time...then a small level area...then another 12....then a level area...all the way to the bottom. About 50 yards from the last step were some very, very tall ficus bushes that bordered a back yard and house.

The steps were made of concrete and it had some high iron hand railings on both sides of the steps.

Well, we were now dirty as hell from having that huge tire rubbing all over us in trying to roll it all the way and we were also tired of messing with it. So we got the bright idea to roll that huge bastard down the steps and have it crash into the bushes below. So on both sides to steady it and aim it straight away down the steps, on the count of 3 we gave a big push.

That monster started rolling down all of those steps and when it hit the first level part it bounced into the air...picking up speed and bouncing higher and higher at each point. We were both awe struck at how fast and how high that HUGE frigging tire was going! At some point one of us just said, "Awwww shit...I think we f*#ked up"!!

It got to the bottom of the steps and was going SOoooo fast and so high that it just BOUNCE over those super high bushes and slammed into a metal awning that was attached to the back end of the brick wall of the house.

It sounded like a bomb went off and just crushed that awning like it was a tin pie plate!! FORTUNATELY (PHEW!) there was no on sitting out back in lawn chairs or anything to have been injured of killed. It was only a matter of moments though that everyone below started hollering and running outside to see what happened.

By the time they figured it out...we ran our scrawny asses off through the woods and every back way that we could think of to escape and not get found. What would have taken only 5-10 minutes to get home took over an hour after back-tracking and hiding to see if we heard any "bloodhounds or coon dogs" after us.

We never got caught. Never got put in jail (which we would have). But, I guess I should be condemned from posting on here for my criminal actions.
I must admit, I do feel better now...that's one less skeleton in my closet.

OK...WHO'S NEXT??

BTW...If Martha Stewart suddenly decided that she liked pool and was going to sponsor and promote a special match between any two players...should she also be condemned for her conviction and time in jail?

Surprisingly, as an Asian female, I'm a bad driver. I've actually lost my license a few times but would continue to drive. I've got almost as many "driving on a suspended license" tickets as speeding tickets. One court appearance, I was advised by my now-ex boyfriend to plead guilty and the judge would go easy on me for my honesty. Thanks to that little gem I spent four weekends in jail. My cousin and sister would cry every time they dropped me off on Friday evening. But it actually wasn't bad. Since I'm mixed, I hung out with the black girls and we used to scare the white newbies. My nickname was American Pie and girls would bring food, drinks, and candy to my cell. Then I'd read, write poetry, or do crosswords all weekend.

DM,

Sort of like your's, but I got busted......upside my head and back!

I rolled a spare tire down a hill next to my house and it took off much, much faster and farther than I had imagined it could.

The nearest house DOWN the hill had to be close to 1/2 a mile and had a VW bug out front.
Smacked it up pretty good.

8 year olds don't usually think of things a 1/2 mile away going wrong :)
