this sure sounds like you were willing to buy it at the asking price...

... because I said that I was interested in buying his cue????

I wanted to see the cue for myself before committing to buying it... or else WHY ask to get together to see it for myself????

If I had said... I am going to buy your cue. Let's meet and do the exchange.... then... and only then have I committed to buying it at the asking price... imo.

Dave - I'm sure you wouldn't expect me to take $760 for a cue I had an offer of $800 for, and given that, I'm sure you wouldn't expect me to meet you to 'work a deal' if I thought you would offer me less. I met you to save you shipping and Paypal charges and to let you hit with the cue - obviously just a misunderstanding, and no big deal.

I was a little pissed, but you're a decent guy and it was a pleasure meeting you. My apologies for venting when you didn't mean any harm.

you have moved beyond talking price and was discussing payment and shipping.

If so, we could do this in person... and that way I'd avoid the shipping and Paypal expenses... and you'd avoid the hassle of shipping it

Fair enough Scott... no harm done. :)

fwiw... I didn't see that you listed your price as being a firm price in your original listing... thus I am used to the price being an asking price... and therefore negotiable... to a degree... usually ~5-10% without offending the seller. It's common practice for a seller to accept cash payment for 95% of his asking price... at least that has been my experience in buying and selling studd other than cues.

I offered you 5% less than your asking price. You said "no"... and even explained why, which you didn't have to do. It was at that time you told me that you had another offer to buy the cue... at your $800 asking price. I understood. We parted harmoniously. I was just taken back by your post here accusing me of low-balling you... that's all.

That's what I thought as well, but re-reading his PM I realize he intended to deal. When I got the 2nd offer, I should have contacted Dave and told him - you need to be sure about this, because the cue is sold if you don't want it. I just didn't realize he was going to drop the price, and he was first in line so I was honoring what I thought was a deal. In the end, the trade ended up fine for me - I'm getting a back-up cue by the same maker as my player.

I think AZ'ers get dealers and collectors confused, and most AZ'ers always offer less than asking price, not realizing that most dealers jack up prices and most collectors do not.

I'm a collector (if that) and overall I lose money on the cues I handle - some I make $50, some I lose $50. In other words, I'm not screwing anyone with prices because I feed my family by other means. That also means that it's highly unlikely I'll lower my price, and I have no problem walking away if a deal isn't right. I do this for fun.

The other thing - it was NOT a waste of my time to meet Dave. We met at a pool hall and I had some good conversation with friends and shot some pool. Plus, the more friends the better. Dave is a good guy, and the other folks in the pool hall know him and said the same.
