Slammin balls at the corner-why?

Hitting them THAT hard down the rail, he could also be testing his stroke to make sure it is straight. Shots like that need to be struck very accurately, especially hit very hard. If they're going in he knows he is stroking straight through.

That's close to my assesment...

I warm up by hitting hard, long shots and not trying to focus too much on them... mostly to loosen my arm up. Then tone it down to dial things in. No sense in trying tricky cut shots when you are totally cold... won't warm up your arm or your mind.

Same drill here.........

I practice the same way to get my stroke in line before playing. I'll set up the ob at the center of the table and place the cb at the mouth of the corner pocket ( l or r it dont matter ) and I pocket 5 in a row in the opposite corner pocket with stop, draw and follow at various speeds...........

i like it when guys come into the bar i go to and start talkin shit about being the best player in the room. then after the game is made i throw a few balls out and one stroke them in the corner about 99mph. gives me confidence and puts a little doubt in their minds.

Helps to get loose and in stroke faster, gives you the feeling of really stroking the ball rather than poking. I shoot long power draw shots on warm-up for the same reason, it lets me fine tune my stroke.

About 16 years ago I seen pro women doing the same thing to warm up.
I think it was Allison Fisher and and Ewa Mataya. They were slamming balls in the corner for warm up.
