The headstring slate on our 8-foot Presidential Billiards table has shifted down about 1/32". You can feel the "ledge" where the two slates meet and are misaligned. You can hear it every time the cue ball passes over it.
How do I best fix this? I've tried driving wooden shims between the slate and the support wood (1x6" pine that crosses the table's main long supports at the slate seams), but that's had no effect. I assume that the shims are simply compressing the support wood and not offering any upward lift to the slate.
Do I need to adjust the rail bolts? (i.e. are the rails leveling the slates at their intersections?)
Other?
