Slate problem or table problem?

I have an Olhausen Remington 8ft table custom ordered in solid cherry. The table is about 2 years old.

My problem is the head slate seems to have raised up where it meets the middle slate, enough so that you can feel a bump. Where the middle slate meets the foot seems to be fine.

The company that installed the table ( family owned 40 plus years in bussiness) said that this was caused by someone sitting on the table or setting stuff on the table. I have not sat on the table and nothing heavier than maybe 20 pool cues laid out to photo has been set on it.

My question is could the wood be warping as the table is in a basement. It is heated in the winter and dehumidified in the summer. The joints were done with beeswax. What else could cause this problem? Is it true that I have to have them come and take the whole thing apart to fix this. Does $275 sound about right with 1 hour travel each way?

Thanks in advance

Matt

To diagnose the problem pull the 3 rails from that end of the table then pull the cloth back to expose the seam. Could be a problem with the beeswax or possibly someone lifting up that end of the table and somehow causing the lip. As for sitting on the table - unless you live alone or watch the table 24/7 you won't know if someone sat on it.

If it's the beeswax you can probably do your own repair. Also check the slate screws on the head slate piece closest to the seam. Possibly they were not tightened down.

If you're not comfortable with this but can at least get the cloth pulled back you can see the problem and let the repair folks know. Personally I would arrange to pay them by the hour plus travel time since you would have already done half the work. Make sure to check for level once any repairs are done.

The slat popped. It happen to me several times. There's a product sold that will cure that, it did for me, but I can't remember the name of it. Contact Brady Berhman, the US Open promoter. He knows the guy and the product. That or his son does.

Your slate dropped of popped up. This usually happens when the table is moved. With Olhausen's it shouldn't happen because there is a slate screw at each side of seam in the middle. If you moved the table its your fault, if not they should come out and fix the problem. I guarantee my slates for one year providing the table isn't moved. Also do you have a child that may have removed wedges underneath the table. it's not from wood warping. Yes they will need to disassemble the table to fix the problem properly.

Donny, once again we are on the same page....

Thank you.

Yeah, give me a call. I'm actually in Orange County, lately I've been playing bar tables in Huntington Beach. But we can also go to Hard Times in Bellflower.

Hard Times works for me-
I haven't been down there in forever.
I'm too close to the Sacramento one to stray far.... lol
