Hello,
I recently got a Sledgehammer Break Cue and was wondering if you have to do any maintenance(scuffing, shapping) on the tip? Also, do you chalk the tip like on a normal leather one? Thanks.

I don't know much about the Sledge hammer but I assume it has a phenolic tip.

I got a phenolic tip put on my break cue. I scuffed it initially so it would hold chalk and I check it from time and scuff as needed. If you find yourself miscueing a lot or the tip not visibly holding chalk, then I would scuff it a little. If you go too crazy with the scuffer there may come a time that you would have to replace the phenolic tip on it. Thats not that big a deal as long as you have a reputable cue repair guy to take it to and an ebay account to get some phenolic tips online. Most places still don't stock the phenolic tips. And I'm not sure if the sledge hammer requires a special phenolic tip or not.

You definately chalk the tip and chalk it good. It doesn't hold chalk as good as a leather tip so you should give extra attention to chalking the edges of the tip each time you use it.

a little advice stay away from these one peice ferulles they real are not that great and they break would sugested to use a reg fiber ferrule and then put on a phenolic tip that why u can change it and try out new phenolic tips try out a white diamond off ebay they play great and are going to out last the ferrule /tip combo.

I installed a one piece phenolic tip/ferrule on my break cue and it is "ok".

For breaking purposses, it does the job, but a lot of attention needs to be paid to the accuracy. If you miscue a little, it is a disaster. For jumping, it works like a charm.

It certainly need chalking everytime after every shot and has not needed any shaping or roughing.

All said and done, the next one will be water buffalo.

a few hundred years ago, they invented things called periods.......you put them at the end of your sentences so people can better understand what you're saying.

that was one big ass sentece that took me 10 min to decipher :D

VAP

Well what is the difference between not using periods, and using way too many?

:p

:D

That could be a good answer.
If that was actually a riddle, you ass.
Haven't you ever noticed VAP's excessive use of the period............? I can't see how someone could hit that key that many times at the end of every sentence............. It's just amazing........... Now i'm trying to think of things to type just so i can use way too many periods........... How am i doing VAP............? Am i doing this right............?
Hey, maybe you have something stuck in your keyboard.

J/K :p

Those aren't periods.....(just like that).....they're pregnant pauses to help you reflect on what was just written. ("pregnant pause") :p :D

I asked Mike Gulyassy this same question about a year ago. right after I got my Sledge...his response was that scuffing was OK so it holds chalk better, but never use a tip-pik on it.

Drivermaker, Big Jon:

The technical term for those repeating periods is ellipsis (or ellipses). They indicate a suspension of thought.

Now look what you've done...poor Jon is having another neurotic obsessive compulsive disorder attack from all of those periods. Damn guy has been working on the same cue for 4 years now, he'll NEVER get it done if you keep messin' with his head!!! Get this shit right..........(just lookin' out for you Big Boy) ;) :D
