Just curious. What is the purpose of sleeving a joint. Weight reduction/looks/different material/hit factor ?

I would think the joint would hit like a solid piece of whatever the inner structure is made of.

Adds some protection.

Adds some cosmetic appeal.

Still preserves the wood to wood transfer that many prefer.

I guess that. :)

A sleeved joint indexes the radial loads onto the sleeve instead of onto the threads.

Does this do anything? As the joint in down in the 1% range of the playability of the cue, if it does, there are only a dozen pool players world wide capable of noticing a difference.
