I was honored to be the recipient of samples of two new products; Slip Stic and the as yet to be named cue cleaner, both from Pete LaFond.
I received the samples yesterday. The as yet to be named cue cleaning solvent came in a bottle that must hold about 3 oz, has an eye-dropper top with a screw on lid. The Slip Stic came in a small vial type bottle like the Zardoz Not Wax, which I think was the idea behind this product.
I practiced this morning and upon checking my ferrule discoved that there was sufficient blue discoloring to warrant my usual cleaning with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser...on the ferrule only. In the past I've always used lighter fluid on a daily basis but after a few days I've always had to do heavier cleaning on the ferrule with either Soft Scrub, Cue Clean (an abrasive cleaner with bleach) or, in the last few months, the Magic Eraser.
I tried the new cleaner expecting to have to follow that up with the heavier cleaning but am VERY pleased to say that the blue stains on the ferrule were immediatedly removed! Wiped it on and presto! No more blue. I haven't tried it on a shaft yet....I don't have any dirty shafts around here.
In order to try the Slip Stic I was able to find an old shaft that was not very smooth; but it is now! I tried the Slip Stic and it works great.. much like, or better than, the Zardoz Not Wax. Nice stuff!!
I would buy the cleaner but I don't use any wax's or any stuff like the Slip Stic anymore. But if you don't want to burnish your shaft a few hundred strokes every other day then the Slip Stic is definitely a good product. Very slick! I expect that a wipe down with the new cleaner followed by some Slip Stick will get some very nice results.
I'll update the information on the cleaner as the weeks go by. I expect that I'll be using it rather than lighter fluid since it seems to have the same very small lubricating properties and did a fine good job of turning my bluish ferrule very white. Troy will like this stuff.
