Slow Nap Cloth?

I was watching the IPT yesterday and before the show it said they use slow nap cloth. My question is what is it? is it like a slow simonis?

one, the cloth is thicker so it's slower, and two, it has a nap. the nap is like the effect on velvet, when u stroke it one way it's really smooth, the other way less so. this effect is on the cloth (obviously to less of an extent than velvet.

a lot of snooker tables have nap cloths.

hope that helps a bit.

It's kind of ridiculous that they advertise that they are using "slow nap cloth" without giving an explanation of what it is since their target audience isn't the pool players themselves. Their target audience has no clue what that means. Another thing that I think is a bit ridiculous is when they continuously say, "Real Pool. Real Rules. Real Money.". All of us know why they're saying that and what the significance is but, again, their target audience has no clue why any of those statements would be significant. Why isn't the pool that they currently see on TV "real", or why aren't the rules that they currently see on TV "real"? Without knowing the history of the game at the professional level, "Real Pool. Real Rules. Real Money." just seems like a not-so-nifty little slogan.

Oh well. I'm not a gazillionaire either, so I probably don't know what I'm talking about.

Again, I think the market appeal of the IPT is to the non player (or people who play casually a few times a year).
People who are serious about the game prefer to watch entire matches, not highlights and maybe 1 full game. Its the same thing ESPN did with the cheerleader/football players teaming up with the pros playing doubles matches, or how about the dual table format....... Sucked for people wanting to watch a full set, but had mass appeal to the remote control flickers who played last week in the local pub. On the other hand you take the PBT.... that was a long race set into a 2 hour format. If they had dead time at the end, they used it for highlights, interviews and instructional time.
Anyhow, the real rules thing, in my opinion is a ploy for all the bar players out there who think they are playing "REAL POOL" cause you have to call what ball the object ball hits, what chicken finger grease stain the ball will roll over, and who puked in the garbage can before the shot is "legal"

In the Orlando tournament, the napped cloth didn't seem to play particularly slowly. I think that's because it was new. Napped cloth changes speed quite a bit from new to month-old. It never had a chance to get the nap up.

It will be interesting to see if the Venetian tournament in July ends up with slow cloth after nine days of play.

not sure

Im not sure if they were using, in that king of the hill tourney, the actual slow nap cloth that they are going to use from this point out. At Hard Times, Mike massey told me when he tried to get some of the cloth to practice on for the IPT, they told him it was still in customs. I think they signed the contract with gorina/granito after the KOH tourney.

Nap cloth in general is slower, and acts different than cloths like simonis. Nap cloth is also directional, therefore it rolls differently "uphill and downhill". (plug)Freddy the Beard's book explains nap cloth very well IMO if you ever want to read up on it. Hope this helps.

I played for years on the nappy Mali cloth....not to be confused with Napa Valley California:D

Anyway, like Bob said.....it takes about a month in a normal pool room til the cloth breaks in....up to that point it plays kinda like year old Simonis. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my 860, but to this day when I play on the slow stuff I slip into stroke very quickly.....you just have to slug the ball a little more and get to use your full stroke more. Which I like to do....A LOT!:D
