I am giving my review of my new Leon Sly Fancy Sneaky Pete.
Let me start out by saying that I am, by no means, an expert on just about anything, BUT, I have played pool for fun and competitively (locally) for over 20 years.
I have owned many of the same production cues that most of you all have, and then some more. I used to be a real cue whore.
Currently I own:
20+yr old Custom Scruggs
Tony Matthews
Old Meucci SP, that I have had converted to my specs-ferrules, tip, butt cap, etc.
A couple various J/B.
Back to the Sly..................
I could not be more pleased with this cue!!!
It is a MONSTER PLAYER!!!!!!
Someone in another review said something about the sound of a cue, especially the sound of a top professionals' cue. Well folks, this cue has that in spades!
The sound, the feel, hell.....the ACTION, is simply unreal!!!!
It's a cocobolo 4pt, with hoppe ring and butt cap. The joint is coco around phenolic around maple, with a radial pin. This joint is simply the NUTS!
You owe it to yourself to try this joint combination. It has such an incredible feel, you will be amazed.
The ferrules are micarta, I never thought I would be a fan because I always played with Ivor-x, but this material is sweet! It has Everest tips, again, I was always a fan of Triangle tips, but these Everest's are fantastic!
Here's a scenario....first time I hit with it, broke and ran 2 racks. BOOM!
Started playing a little more, had an easy corner pocket shot. Object ball was 10" from the corner, cue ball was near the side pocket, made the ball and still drew the entire length of the table, without even trying that hard. It is a phenomenal cue. WOW!!!
I am extremely impressed with the cue, as you can tell, but I am also impressed with the way Leon handles his customers. Not all cuemakers can handle that fine line between being a cuemaker and a customer service person. He does it extremely well.
He kept me informed as to the progress of my cue, almost weekly, or at least every other week. Once he was close to the final stages, he posted pictures for me to see and when it was completed, he also sent me pictures.
I am trying (lol), to post them here on this review. It's my first time, so I don't know if it'll work. If not, maybe I'll ask Leon to come behind me and post them for you all to see.
It really is pretty, IMO, and I hope you all enjoy it.
I am not a mindless drone who only buys certain things from certain folks, but I have to say, this is my first Sly cue, and this was an excellent experience from beginning to end.
Great cue. Great price. Nice guy.
I don't know about the rest of you, but that's a pretty unbeatable combination, to me. Again, just my opinion, but it's pretty tought to beat.
Thanks for your time and give Leon a try if you're in the market for something new.
You won't be disappointed.
Thanks again, Eric.
