Just want to say a BIG thanks to AzBilliards for their coverage on this tournament.........So Thanks!

Also would like to say WOW!

120 players @ $200.00 - $250.00 Great Turnout!

Good Job Guys!

(*Did notice though a few "staple" Western Canadian tournament players are not there: Stan Tourangeau, Kevin Cardinal and John Horsfall to name a few)

Anyway Great Job Guys!

So far everthing on this side of the board looks great.

(Winnipeg players could be doing a little better........or maybe they still will .........I never count them out)

Actually the overall talent at this tournament is probably the best "assembled
talent" in Canadian 9 Ball history!

Good luck the rest of the tourney!

Thanks again.............this is an exciting week!

P.S. I am visting SML Entertainment (Brackets) and AzBilliard (Brackets) at least 10 times per day.................don't want to miss a thing!

what is the scoop with the web cam on azbilliards site ...does it work is there anything that can be watched?

i got it finally working at 10 last night cant see a thing other than see a few people and tables in the distance

The web cam doesn't really "work" so to speak, it just gives you a look at the venue and not actual matches.

This event really has been a huge success, SML showed everyone they know how to run a good show, bringing in Jim Wych to be the tournament director was a genius idea...get someone with loads of experience in the business and that has the respect of all the players. Everything right down to the equipment is top notch, the quality of the field is world class.

Hopefully this becomes an annual event because without it the closest event with a five figure payout is the Reno Open....about a twenty hour drive from Calgary.

Looks like a Canadian has a good chance making it to the finals. Only one TOP player in the way, and its a good one, Danny Basavich. Edwin Montel, Brady Gollan, Danny Hewitt, and Alex Pagulayan are all on the same side of the draw, with Danny Basavich being the only other TOP PLAYER on that half of the draw. On the bottom half, Luc Salvas, PJ Masciotte, Nick Kruger and Paul Potier. Strickland and Archer are down there too though. Here is my pick for the final,
Alex Pagulayan vs Johnny Archer

this is what i am hoping for though:
Brady Gollan (local player out of Kelowna) vs Paul Potier (also from close by, Vancouver)

Looks like this Benny Onyschuk is taking the FXSkAtEr route through this one. Last Kelowna tournament i lost my first match hill-hill to an A+ player, if i had of won i would have played Daniel Tremblay, Benny's first round matchup. Then i managed to pull off a great LOSS to Wayne Greenlaugh, this Benny guy knocked him off the A-Side. Thanks for avenging my losses Benny, whoever you are. :D :D :D

Benny is one of the great pool teachers in Canada and a former Canadian 8-ball champion. Great player...

Where abouts does he live? I think i have heard his last name before.

Yikes, I thought Benny was one of the better known western Canadian pool players, mostly due to his longevity ... he's from Edmonton.

Yep... when I first started to play a few years back, I was looking for a good pool instructor and was told by several people that Benny was by far the best teacher in Canada.

It's a bit of a long trip from here (Scarborough) to Edmonton though....

Hey Skater!

Its good to see Benny doing good this tourny. I see he just went to the B side of the board but he is a great player and can come back from there. Im surpprized you have never heard of him or even read about him in some of the pool mags.He has one of the JUICIEST strokes I have ever seen, smooth as silk and the English puts on the ball is amazing. Im thinking about asking him to come to the next Kelowna tourny.

Jay

Hamster,

Your right about Benny's teaching abilities. He's a good one to have show the in's and out's of the game. I had him as a team mate for a few years and when we didnt play leage we played sets at one of our local pool rooms. I learned alot from him,and probably owe most of my game to those few years playing with and agaist him. If your ever in the Edmonton area, send me an email and I would be happy to set up a lesson or meeting for you.

Jay

You should call me before the next kelowna tournament and let me know if hes coming. I wanted to set up some lessons, and I know a few others that would pay for some lessons too. He could likely make a profit no matter how he placed in the tourney.

I look to see Edwin Montal finish in the top 6-- perhaps even the top 4. The guy can really play! He was down on the Mississippi Gulf Coast last year, and he was beating everyone. Nobody knew who he was... He's got a great attitude.

Is there an update available yet? Four players left in the winners' side: Alex P., Kid Delicious, Earl, and Johnny! Many great players on the B side of the chart. Johnny Archer is defending his title from last year. The tournament concludes today.

And the winner is? :p

Thanks, Jay. I may get there in my camper one of these days...
