Smoke Free Rooms in Dallas?

Nitrox11

Just south of reality
Saw another thread about smoke free pool rooms in Florida. Does anyone know of any smoke free rooms around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area?

I still think what hurt diamonds (certainly not the equipment which was the best in the metroplex) the neighborhood was.... let's say "less than ideal" which I'm sure helped the overhead but discouraged some folks from venturing in, and NO BAR! that's a doozy in my opinion. the whole "this is Ames mister" would be great and I'm all for it. I just don't think you can make it today without catering to the rest of the poplulation i.e. games, loud music (i hate it when I'm playing), drink specials and shuffle board.. you get my drift. The only way a "players" room can make it now is with owners that have DEEEEEEEP pockets (which Diamonds had) but that are WILLING to operate on a loss every month just to maintain a players atmosphere IMO

I don't know of any rooms with 9-footers that are non-smoking, but I know some bowling alleys that have 8-foot tables are non-smoking in the pool section. For example, Fun Fest in Arlington has bowling and smoke-free pool zone (last time I was there). Check out some bowling alleys and see if they have a smoke-free pool zone.

Just wait a few months and all of them will be. I think April 10 is the deadline in Dallas. [IIRC, this includes all bars and pool halls.]

[edit: I was right (for once) - here's a link to the news article]

And hey lets just ask them for free pool, drinks and open 24Hr too, since they are operating on a loss..

They passed a no smoking ordinance here in Austin. As far as the pool halls, yea it was no smoking for about a month. Then it was back to smoking again. Now they have no ash trays and but just use a cup of water or a beer bottle. Maybe one day they will all be smoke free. So you might be dissappointed, but hopefully not. They sure don't inforce it here in Austin.

Border States Suffer ---> At First!

I live on the Idaho/Washington border. When the WA smoking ban went into effect a lot of players started going across the border -- and not just because of the ban either -- cigarettes, gas, food, etc. are a lot cheaper there. In fact, my neighbor's use of "Honey I gotta go to Idaho and pick a few things up, it's so much cheaper there" that it has practically become a synonym for "I'm going to play pool".

I know a few guys who had to completely change their routines as smoking was a main part of it. Although it has been a few years, some are still struggling with it. Habits are hard to break whether they are smoking or stroking!

The ban hurt some bars and halls at first but that did not last long. Leagues and tournaments have gotten much larger in fact. More wives are showing up to watch or participate. Last week a friend said, "You know I hated that da*n ban at first but now my wife likes coming and I get to play more"!

There is always that geese and gander thing though .....

So do they not provide a number for you to call for places that are violating the ordinance?

come on up to ontario everywhere (bars, restaurants, pool halls, arenas, etc) is smoke free indoors and you cant even smoke under roofs, umbrellas on patios outside (not really enforced most of the time) and have to be like 9 meters away from a door also (something like that) I would not want to go back to the way it was and i never hear any smokers complain about it anymore because they all realise it is a good thing. No more heavy clouds of smoke floating in the rooms, butts on floor, astrays sitting on tables and I smoke :(
