Smoking in your pool room?

New Jersey does not allow smoking in pool rooms, bars, or restaurants.

The majority of smokers (myself included) have adjusted well to the smoking ban.

Some good things about the smoking ban are; that I am smoking far less (a quarter pack a day from 1 1/2 packs a day), the pool room is no longer filled with smoke when it's busy, my clothes don't smell near as bad, and I can now wear contacts without my eyes getting irritated from smoke.

I opposed the smoking ban, but now that it's a done deal, I can live with it.

We will wait and see.

No smoking ban yet here in Missouri statewide. Only certain towns scattered throughout the state. Since we are 5 min from ILL we will see some effect in January when the ban goes into effect for the state of ILL. I can only say second hand conversations I have had at BCA conventions that room owners in non-smoking states all have the exact same story. They say there is an immediate drop off in business. IF you have built your business model correctly and have numerous streams of income, you can survive it. Within one year every room is doing MORE business with non-smoking. I hope when it comes to Missouri that we are in that same group of businesses. I assume since only 9% of our business comes from pool time that we will be okay.

No smoking in restaurants here, but there is still smoking in bars. The one pool hall still has smoking.

There's been a lot of rumbling, and it looks as though everything will be smoke-free before long.

I hear a rumor that there are plans for a new pool hall in Fargo, and this one will be smoke-free from the get-go whether the city/state is there yet or not.

Can you still smoke in your pool room?

Minnesota has a very restrictive smoking ban going into effect on Monday (includes private clubs even).

For any of you smokers out there, any bad experiences with losing cues, or do you take them with you when you go outside?

I'm a chimney smoker when I shoot, and this is going to be a difficult transition for me, and may even be the death of the few "real non-sports bar" pool rooms in the area. Probably be more healthy as I won't smoke so much, especially in MN winter.

Like Don was saying, MT is supposed to go smokeless next year which I'm guessing will kill off most of the poolhall/bars, hopefully the "club" idea goes over

Jake ( better start smoking two at a time )

Colorado went smoke-free, state-wide, around July '06. Love it.

Now I'm moving back to Atlanta, and will have to deal with the whole thing again. Meh.

At least the room I'll be going to most of the time has REALLY high ceilings...

Michigan still has smoking everywhere except in public buildings, non-smoking areas in restaurants etc. My home pool room is a sports bar and everyone smokes. We serve food too, but if there's a non-smoking area I'm not aware of it. Some people ask where it is and we just laugh :p .

I smoked for 37 years. At the end I was using 3 packs a day, 60 cigs. When I quit in 2001 I decided that I wouldn't be petty like a lot of reformed smokers. I actually encourage people to smoke in my home and car. I like the smell, but I know that many people don't, and it's NOT healthy. There's no question about that, however, I'm not in favor of the smoking police patrolling private business'es, ESPECIALLY POOL ROOMS AND BARS! I miss the rooms where there were spitoons:D , and you could buy a nickle CIGAR, and you could cuss out loud without looking around to see if anyone was present that might be offended. WTF ? What a bunch of pu****s :p ...Tom

By "petty" I assume you mean, not wanting other people to smoke around them? They're trying to not smoke any more - and having folks smoke around them could well lead them back down that road. How is that "petty"?

Regardless - congratulations on quitting. A lot of people try and can't pull it off.

Smoking is still allowed in all of NC. I believe it makes part of the pool room. Every since I stepped into the pool room at the age of 12, I remembered it being very smokey.

Kansas

is still smoking except a couple of city bans and governement buildings, and I still say the government is not here to legislate 'morality'.

and now, about all you people having oral sex in your bedrooms, it is against the law here .... LOL

Total ban will become law in Oregon on January one. No smoking in any bar, pool hall, bowling alley, you name it. I don't smoke, other than the ocassional stogie...but this is no longer a land of personal choices and freedoms. The nanny state is here.

This whole subject really ticks me off. If you don't like to be around smoke find somewhere besides a bar to hang out! Why don't all the non-smokers go out to the patios-- that way you can have all the damn fresh air you can suck up.

Because no one complains about someone else NOT smoking near them.

Smoking affects other people. A lack of smoking does not.

Ummm...since 1789 I think, here in the good ole USA. Many states have been banned oral sex, anal sex, sex with minorities unless you owned them. Only recently did the Supreme Court throw out some of these laws concerning sodomy. This country has had a very sad history concerning sexual morality, discrimination, and any combination of the two.

New Jersey has the same thing. NO SMOKING indoors. this is OK with me and I'm a smoker. I just go outside to smoke. It makes it better for the non-smokers and the pool hall I go to has experienced an increase in business.

I hadn't heard how the smoking ban is Houston is going... thanks for the update. I play in Alvin and the air isn't too bad when I'm playing even though about half the folks are smoking. Of course getting home I expect the clothes to smell of smoke- it's simply part of playing pool to me. The only part that occaisionally gets to me is when I open my case to play at home and realize that my cue smells like smoke!

When, or if, a smoking ban goes into effect, I'll welcome it.
